I along with my mom have been trying to find out what happened to her grandfather, Florencio (Frank) Gaxiola. From information that's passed down from our family, documents we have and documents we've found what we know of him is this... He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on June 8, 1891. There's no birth certificate. His father was Florencio Gaxiola (born about 1868 in Mexico) and his mother was Carmen B. Gaxiola (born about 1870 in Costa Rica). He had 2 brothers, Rafael (Ralph) and Edwardo(Eddie). Frank at some point moved to California from Arizona, but when we do not know. He did register for WWI and we have his draft card showing he was recently married to Erolinda Padia, which is my great grandmother. They were married in 1918. Together they had 3 girls, Carmen, Mary, and Cecilia. Birth certificates obtained from California Vital Records have their legal names as: Carmen, Lela, and Lela Margarite. Erolinda died after a surgical error in California on October 30, 1923. She was having thyroid surgery. From what's been passed on from family stories is that Frank that night brought the 3 girls to Arizona via train, left them with his mother and told the family he was going to find work. He was never seen from or heard from again.

We don't have any pictures of him, just one of him when he was about 5 years old. From what we've heard he had reddish curly hair and was very fair. He was a medium build. His draft card states he had an eye disability so he could have had glasses or some other type of eye problem. If this story sounds familiar to anyone out there, please respond and maybe we can find out what happened to him.

From other stories we've heard, he was of outstanding moral character, loved his family with all his heart and was absolutely heart broken when his wife died. He could have possibly died from heart problems as this runs in the family and we also heard various people/family told my family members they saw him in Mexico or California. None of this was ever confirmed by any of our family. Any information anyone out there may have would mean the world to me. My grandmother died never knowing what happened to her dad and I told her I would help her to find him, which I did while she was alive and we're continuing to do today.
