Palikowka is east of Rzescow and my ancestor's village was Widelka near Przewrotne and Dolna Kolbuszawa which is a bit further to the north of Rzescow but definetly is the vicinity. Since the civil and church archives are at Rzescow it sounds like she could help me also. I've pretty much used up my allowance for February but I'll contact her next month. If you run across an Agnieszka Gawel born 1859 do let me know. She married my great grandfather Gregorz Gawel. Despite the same last name she was said not to be related which probably means she was a distant cousin from a village a bit further away than Przewrotne/Kolbuszawa which was home to other Gawels.

Read and passed your PGSA translation on Palikowka to our fellow researcher. A town of 800 people with lots of Gawels. Widelka had 300 households with about 20 of them being Gawels. I guess that in small farming communities the smaller bloodlines run out of males and go away while the larger ones just grow....

Have you been able to locate church records or census records for Widelka? My g-g-great-grandfather, Michal SUSEK, was born there in 1837. He was illegitimate, and his mother was Katarzyna Susek, also born in Widelka (year unknown). Michal was later married (to Hedvig ZUBER in 1867) and lived in Kupno, and I've been very successful tracing the line from that point forward. But I have had no success with Widelka.

Your best bet would be to get the church records for Kolbuszawa/Widelka through the nearest Family History Center. They microfilmed records of that era (up to the 1850's). The records are in Latin mostly but are fairly easy to figure out. There are other routes to get to the records (they exist today) but for the dates you are looking for, the LDS FHC is the cheapest and possibly faster way to access them.
