Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
I am having difficulty finding information on the Gaw families that immigrated from Ireland around 1839-1850 and ended up in Ontario, Canada. William Gaw (b.1801? in Ireland, d.1891 in Kemptville, Ontario) seems to have come to Canada right away with his wife Elizabeth (and possibly a child Matilda?), while his brother Jacob (b.1813? in Ireland, d.1897 in Kemptville, Ontario) and his wife Ann (Lightle?) apparently lived in Ohio and maybe California before coming to Canada. Jacob and Ann's children are: Elizabeth, Fanny, John, James, Mary, William, David, Anne, and Prudence. Supposedly another brother came from Ireland as well--Edward who supposedly settled somewhere around Prescott, Ontario. I am hoping that someone out there has perhaps come across some info that relates to my family. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me!

Re: Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
So sorry I can't be more helpful. My ancestor, John GAW d in Abbeville Co., SC in 1788. I don't have earlier information that that. I know he had at least 2 sons, Thomas b 1777 and John b 1786. Thomas moved on to Tennessee and John to Indiana.
There were 3 brothers from Enniskillen (spelling is probably off) Ireland who settled in Virginia. I don't know much about their line, but as far as I know it was in and around Virginia for years.
Good luck with your research.

Re: Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
My Great-grandfather was William Anson Gaw a fireman for the Canadian Railroa and he married Emma Alexander around 1889. Unfortunately I have little info on that side of the family (just starting) and my grandfather just died last month at 102 so I'm looking into other family members for any possible history to trace back. I hope we can make a connecting branch here.

Re: Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
Eric, I think there are a couple of possibilities for a William & Emma Gaw in the 1901 census, but see if this one rings a bell: Wm is a gardener at this time, but that doesn't preclude that he might have worked for the RR at a later time. 2 37 17 Gow William M Head M Feb 14 1866 35 2 38 17 Gow Emma F Wife M Oct 6 1870 30 2 39 17 Gow Allen E M Son S Jan 28 1892 9 2 40 17 Gow Rachel F Daughter S Nov 25 1893 7 2 41 17 Gow Minnie F Daughter S May 27 1895 5 2 42 17 Gow James A M Son S Sep 17 1896 4 2 43 17 Gow Frederick M Son S May 2 1897 3 1901 Census of Canada Subdistrict: Blenheim, WENTWORTH & BRANT (North/Nord), ONTARIO District Number: 127 Subdistrict Number: c-8 Archives Microfilm: T-6505 The other possibility are a Wm & Emma Gow (both 21 yrs) with a son Arnold in Ottawa. good luck,

Re: Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
I am searching for info on an Alexander Gaw (b. ?, d.?)
He (per his dtr's death certificate) had a daughter Mary Gaw (b. 1836 Ireland, d. 1912 Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario).
Mary Gaw married a George Moore (b. 1826 Fermanagh, Ireland, d 1904 Hamilton Ontario). They had at least 8 children.
Frederick K. Moore (b. 1859, d. 1947) Mary Moore (b. 1864) WiIliam Moore (b. 1867?) Charles Moore (b. 1868?) Henry Alexander Moore (b. 1871) Eleanor Louise Moore (b. 1877) Herbert E Moore (b. 1879?) Alexander Wentworth Moore (b 1881)
I am hoping this might ring a bell with someone ....

Re: Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
Hello Eric :-) Are you by any chance still working on your family history? I still have a feeling our families are connected, but I haven't been able to find proof of it yet. Have you made any progress? Please feel free to contact me at whats-the-occasion@hotmail.com. I am still stuck-- I haven't been able to find any record of Jacob Gaw and William Gaw's parents, which I hoped would help connect them to more family members. William Anson Gaw and Emma Alexander had a son William Alexander Arnold b. May 15, 1900, a daughter Elvia? Alexander b. March 2, 1902, a son Lloyd Anson Alexander b. March 20, 1903, and a premature stillborn child born/died April 25, 1913. Do you know William Anson Gaw's parent's names?

Re: Jacob GAW, William GAW, Edward GAW from Ireland to Canada
I'm not sure if this will help or confused...I sure am.
I am a William Gaw, from a long line of William Alexanders and Gilberts. I'm not sure I caught the dates in your thread, but thought I'd mention mine.
Gilbert, b. 1804 or so in Philadelphia, had a son William Alexander, who was known as Alexander. There may also have been a daughter, Gertrude. WA Gaw was a sailor. He spent time in England and Ireland and while there he married an Elizabeth B., b. about 1830, who was Irish. They returned to the US, possibly New Orleans. She died in 1858. They had a son, William Alexander (my great grandfather). After Eliz. died, I only find records of Gilbert and grandson WmAlex in the US. It seems Alexander returned to England, became a citizen and a ship's master in 1863. No records after that that I can verify.
I don't know if we fit in, but thought I'd mention it.
