Hi Bill, Merry Christmas Happy New Year!!
It is a busy time of year. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. My grandmother came from Charlestown in Co Mayo. She came over around 1912-1915. Her family lived in a place called Glann. There were lots of family cousins in this area. I have seen the name Gavaghan many times while researching. Her father's name was John, His father was James. Not sure if this helps you.

Hi Susan My Gavaghan's are from Charlestown,Co Mayo. There were a lot of Gavaghan relatives. Roscommon is the next county so the families could be related. How far back does your information go? Pat

the only information I have comes from an uncles notes prior to his death. He said that John was killed by that bull about 1830. Uncle John says He was a baby in arms when his mother and sisters came here. Sisters stayed and mother was too homesick to stay so left with young John. They came by port of ny. information so sketchy its been near impossible. Susan e-mail

Susan Sometimes it is very hard to trace our relatives back. I went to Ireland about 9 years ago and filled out forms & did finally get some information back. But it takes lots of questions in the family to get some information. I have my great great grandfather & family names in Ireland but most came to USA and I have lots of work ahead of me. My ggrandfather was the only one who stayed in Co Mayo on the homestead. So keep asking questions & searching. Pat
