I am trying to find out something about my surname origin. If this is of any help I live in Voivodina, Serbia and I am of romanian nationality. Any information appreciated.

Gava is a very common Italian surname, especially in the north east of Italy. Many of my family members come from there. Kind Regards

I saw your message the day you posted but then it was empty (possibly due to some technical error) and when look at it now it was all right. Anyway, thank you for your answer. I found out that Gava is also a common surname in eastern Hungary. This region is geographically closer to me so I believe that there might be a connection between us and them but I have no idea whether such connection exists towards Italian Gava's.

Very common Italian surname, you are correct. My family is from Treviso, which is in northern Italy.
My grandmother's Gava family were from Selice near Udine in the Veneto region of Italy.
My husbands great grandparents were from Veneto, Treviso. They came to Australia and settled in New Italy, NSW on the Marquis de Rays.
I must be related to your husband. My great grandfather was Francesco Gava - son of Giovanni Baptista and Santa Maria Gava. santa Maria survived the Marquis de Rays expedition with 5 of her children and then settled in St Johns Park NSW with her 2nd husband Domenico Bellotti. Their vineyard was taken over by my g. grandfather Francesco after his mother's death in 1901. His oldest daughter Silvia was my grandmother. My father is her second son, Ron.
I must be related also! My family also came from Treviso and settled in Brazil!
Yes you must be related to my husband. His G Grandparents are Regina Bellotti and Santo Gava. Santo Gava would be a brother to Francesco. Santo's second youngest daughter Regina Gava is my husbands grandmother. Her third child Clare (second oldest daughter) is my husbands mother.
