Hi Chris:)
I've been trying to go back further with the Gava name. I have found reference in "Italian Genealogical Records" by Trafford R. Cole from 1240AD of Bartolomeo Da Gava. The name Gava may be reference to the town Gava in Spain. It doesn't seem to have an Italian meaning as most surnames do. When people fled Spain under persecution, many settled in the Venezia region. Lots of people took their trade or place of Origen as their surname. Still hunting! :). Stream number two is that there is a town called Gava in Hungary and lots of interaction between Venice and Hungary. I'll follow that one too:)

That's really interesting Virginia. I didn't know how to trace the tree back further. You are doing a great job. I have just completed a GAVA family research book for Clare with everything I have found... newspaper articles, certificates and photo's.
I have found headstones and visited all graves I can in this area. I still have a few to find, in Ballina and Kyogle.
I am about to start a book about the Roskell's.......lots of work :)
It's really nice to hear from you, keep in touch :)
