Hello,
I just read this post, and wanted to make a couple of suggestions. That's all they are. . . suggestions.
I am helping my grandson with his ancestry for a scout merit badge. In his lineage is Julia Josephine Albright... daughter of Joseph Gianque of France and Josephine (last name is hard to read.. .looks like miller.. but her married name would hbe been Gianque) and she is from Berne Switzerland. He is having a hard time with this. Let us know what you think.
The last name does not contain the letter "n." It's the letter "u." So the name is spelled Giauque, not Gianque.
You can look at
http://new.familysearch.org and find the following info.
1. Joseph Maximilien Giauque, born 15 Sept 1818 at Preles, Bern, Switzerland, died 16 April 1868 (place: I don't know).
He married
2. Marianne Julie (Julia) Willier (which would look a lot like "Miller" in an old document to a person who speaks English). She was born 8 April 1822 in Preles, Bern, Switzerland, and died between 1890-1903. (Place: I don't know).
They were married 30 June 1840 in Hutchinson Kansas, and had 8 children. One of the children (all of their names are listed in
http://new.familysearch.org) was named Julia, born about 1851 in Berlin, Holmes, Ohio, and she married Simpson Albright (that's his name. . .Simpson Albright), born 1847 (no day or month given) in Berlin, Ohio. They had 7 seven (all their names are given on the site cited).
The Giauque family is not from France, but from Preles, a French-speaking village in the German speaking Canton of Bern, Switzerland.
My name is Gerald (Gerry) Giauque. My email is
gs.giauque@gmail.com. I would be happy to help more, for free, if you wish. I am a retired university teacher of French, and have visited the village where my Giauque ancestors originated. I am not well-acquainted with Ancestry.com, because I use the other site so often.
Good luck,
Gerry Giauque
