Do you know if Victor, Andre, Jean-Baptiste, Jean-Jacques et al. (all GAUBERTs nes between 1800 and 1805 in Lafourche Parish) were listed therein? Please email me as soon as possible. There must have been some relationship, nbow that I think about it, cause one of the boys listed hereinabove had a son named Pierre Jacob, I think it was Andre's son.

Merci d'avance!
Christophe

Surnames: Gaubert Gobert
I believe Pierre Jacob Gaubert was one of the first justices of the peace in Lafourche Parish after Louisiana's purchase by the United States. He had children by Marie Celeste Lamotte, a free woman of color, whose father was Nicolas Lamotte, a freed slave. (His brother Andre also married a free woman of color.) The children were later legitimated by marriage, but the parents divorced. Pierre Jacob Gaubert moved to the Opelousas area with one of his sons and died there. I understand many of his descendants spell their surname "Gobert." I am descended from another brother (or half-brother), Guillaume Joseph Gaubert.

Denis,

I have just become aware of my family lineage within the past year. My grandmother, who was married to Eugene Gobert, b. 23 September 1900, never talked about her family. A half cousin to my mother recently provided us with detail of my Gobert/Gaubert family back to Guillaume Gaubert, b. 27 August, 1742 in Esparsac, France.

I was so thrilled to see the detailed information you have about the Gauberts. I'm trying to pull together all of the people of this branch of my family and this information is making me so happy!

Guillaume Gaubert of Esparsac was the father of the Gaubert brothers/half-brothers who migrated to Louisiana with their cousins, the Gaudets. There is a privately-published book by a Mr. Simon about the Simon and Gaubert families. (The author, Mr. Simon, told my father that my grandfather, Denis Gaubert, was his parrain or godfather.) Good luck in your ancestor research!
