I am trying to find information about a family of Gauberts in Philadelphia. The only things I know for sure is that Mary Francis Amicie Gaubert married in Philadelphia in 1836. She was born in France abt. 1815, moved to Baltimore after her marriage to France Brun and died there in 1894. She had a brother, Louis Theodore Gaubert, born in France abt. 1816, who was an upholsterer in Camden, NJ.

I found a passenger list for 1824 which lists Theodore Gaubert, B. Gaubert, and A. Gaubert, female, age 9. I think this child is the one I'm interested in as her family called her Amicie. However, the 1840 Phila census shows Theodore Gaubert had a large family, many of whom were born before 1824, but weren't on the 1824 passenger list.

I have also found some New Orleans passenger lists for a J.T. Gaubert and John Theodore Gaubert in 1820 and 1821, one of which included a female age 6, which again would be the right age for the one I'm interested in. Now I'm wondering if the family lived in New Orleans before moving to Phila. And that would explain why the entire family wasn't on the 1824 Phila passenger list. I think Theodore would have been born abt. 1792. Names which carried through later generations are Mary Amicie, Victor, Francis and Theodore. I would appreciate any information that might shed some light on this.

I have a U.S. Passport (no. 671) for Theodore Gaubert, dated December 20, 1824, which lists his age at that time as 32, which would make his birth year around 1792. A digital photo of this passport is attached.

As an historical artifact, I love this passport: since there were no photos, the passport lists his physical description (eyes: "hazel" nose: "common"). Also note the passport is signed by John Quincy Adams, who was Secretary of State before he became President in 1825.

I believe Theodore Gaubert lived in Baltimore, but he also lived in Philadelphia although I do not know the years. He is related to me through the Brun family, who lived in Baltimore.

Sincerely,

Tori Hall
