I am interested in finding any relatives to my maternal great-grandfather from Lithuania. His name was Joseph(Juozapas) Gaubys(also spelled Goubes). He came through Ellis Island in 1901 to New York, onto Brockton, Ma and finally settled in South Boston amongst the large Lithuanian community. He came from Ilakis, Lithuania near the Latvian border. If there is anyone with the same name (and also possibly spelled "Gaubis", I would love to hear from you. Thanks!!

Hello,
My name is Carol (Gaubis) Webber. My Dad's parents came over from Lithuania separately during that timeframe through Ellis Island. My grandfather came first and settled in Detroit, got a job for the auto industry, then sent for Emelia. My grandmother came here and left her first born son, August, to live with grandparents overseas. Her maiden name was Rothenburg (Ruttenburg?) and, before the war, owned a mill in a town with the same name. My grandfather also had a brother I'm told but I don't know anything about him. My grandparents went on to have three additional children, Edward (deceased), Felix (my Dad, deceased), and Helen (deceased). August came to America when he was seven and lived with the remaining siblings. August is also deceased.
I'd love to hear more history and see if we are possibly related somehow. I'm just starting to trace my family.
Hope to hear from you!

I am Lithuanian and lived in the Westland/Livonia area of Michigan and attended Bentley High School ... graduated in 1963.
I remember in high school two twins by the name of Kathy Gaubis and Susan Gaubis, who also had an older brother, who later had a very serious accident - I now forget his name.
Their Lithuanian father was very strict and no mention of their mother through conversations.
