Yes, I'm glad you see the connections! It took me a while to figure it out. I only remembered that there were Gatches in the family somewhere. I remember meeting Loren Gatch's widow, Minna when I was a child, I think. And yes, Loren is indeed a ubiquitous and noble moniker!
The first time I find the name Loren in the family is an uncle of Charles Greeno. There is a good history and descendant list at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~farmerie/greeno.htmIt was done by Todd Farmerie. I have put a list there of Col. Greeno's children, although I may have some of the spouses names wrong. I thought that Anna had married a Cochlin, at least that is the spelling I had.
Aslo, there is a web site dedicated to the 7th PA Cavalry. I have sent them a picture of Col. Greeno which they put on the site. It is a descendants' group, so if you are interested, you and any other interested parties can join. You can visit the site at:
http://hometown.aol.com/pa7cav/index.htmlI am assuming that we are cousins, you and I - once removed, since I am the same generation as your father.
I am interested to know if your father or uncles have any of Col. Greeno's Civil War relics and such. I have about 30 letters written by him and his brother Amos, and also other documents and photos to share with you. I am guessing that your family has some information since your grandfather was interested in it and some of these family stories must have been passed down. For example, I would like to know about your Gatch ancestor and the assasination of Lincoln. I have the idea he was one of the first on the scene.
You can mail to me directly:
cooche@bellatlantic.netIs there still a Greeno Camp at Lake Leelanau??
