Surnames: De Gasca , Landau, Reynoso ,Guzman
My ex husband's father told us the history of his last name Reynoso which included De Gasca , Guzman and Landau names He said his ancestors were from spain ,portugal and france .
A converso Jew became a priest and adviser to the king .He was sent by the king to the new world .The inquisition was just starting in Spain and Portugal and he advised his family to move to the new world as they still practiced Judaism in secret .they came to the caribbean and started
the sugar plantations and developed the method of sugar extraction. They were not safe there so they emigrated to Mexico and ended in Guanajuato .There they intermarried into 4 other secret Jewish families until they no longer remembered anything about the Jewish religion as being caught with texts or practicing would mean death.
You must remember that Spain only became Spain under Isabelle and Ferdinand before that even princes of Aragon and Catalan had Jewish Blood. The Jews lived on the Iberian peninsula 1000 years before Spain and Portugal became countries.

I think we are all probably right, my grandfather came to Argentina in 1920s, he was from the Vask country in Spain. Some of you say you come from France, Poland, etc. According to my research, (there are a lot of resources in spanish), the surname gasca has it's origins in gipsy comunities originated in Romania, in fact Gasca comes from the word Gaska, wich is a hibrid hydronym between romani and celtic languages and it means "los del zarzal" " alli en el zarzal" or something like that, (i dont know the english for zarzo or zarzal). But it makes reference to a place, a common thing for nomadic people to remember where they came from. So, my theory, it's that they probably originated in Romania and migrated west, that's why some of your ancestors came fron poland or france or spain. I hope this is helpfull, if someone has something else please share it
