My grandmother was from Texas. Her mother, Mary Garner married Ulysees Smith. Mary Garner was supposedly the connection. A cousin of John Nance Garner?

Where would be a good place to begin my tracking. I have pictures of Mary Garner, and her husband. They had daughters named Mae (my grandmother) Anna Belle and Lulu.

They lived in Texas and then moved to Yuma Arizona I believe. Any place to start looking for the connection?
