Fay Anna Garity, age 92,
of Erie passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011
She was born in Everson, Pa. on October 26, 1918, the daughter of the late John and Mary Smith Waller. She was orphaned as a teenager, and soon learned the value of hard work. This paid off in later hard times when her children were at a tender age. A longtime resident of Erie, she worked at many retail establishments in town, retiring at age 79 at Sam's Club.
Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Leo W. Garity of Sharon,
and a brother, John, of Ohio.
She is survived by her three sons, Dennis, of Erie, Terrance, of Austin, Tex., and Timothy, of Lincoln, Neb. Fay had seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, and was always inquiring about their grades and activities. She was very generous with her limited resources, helping anyone in her family who was in need. The family expresses much gratitude to the staffs of Mid-City Towers and the Golden Living Center. Fay always felt their caring attitude. A special note of thanks to her son, Dennis, and to Charles and Carol Zaunegger, who helped her have a high quality of life in her later years. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the Merle E. Wood Funeral Home, Inc. 215 W. 25th St., on Tuesday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Richard Bailey will lead the service.
