Hi--I know our surname was changed by an ancestor, and am wondering what the ancestry of Garabedian is? I can find nothing for Garboden. It appears there are only individuals in the US with this name, and there are not very many of us. Thanks for any insight you can give me.

GARBEDIAN IS ANOTHER SPELLING. MY MOTHERS'S MAIDEN NAME. YES SPELLINGS WERE CHANGED MANY YEARS AGO WHEN THE ARMENIANS IMMIGRATED TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I FOUND MY MOTHER'S NAME SPELT BOTH WAYS ON IMMIGRATION PAPERS.SHE WAS BROUGHT TO CANADA BY THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA AS A LITTLE GIRL AND WOULD BE ABOUT 83 TODAY IF ALIVE. I NO NOTHING OF OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS OR ANCESTORS. HER PARENTS DIED DURING THE WAR.

I am a 21 year old garabedian from mass.
i have learned from my family that the
garabedian name is as common as smith,
go figure.another interesting point i've been
told is that armenians changed their names
during and after the holocaust for obvious
reasons.Garabedian supposedly stands for
son of garabed, which translates to son of
charles.i've also learned that many garabedians are
very well off,i hope to mee some
of them...
