I have all records dating back to
Zachariah Gapen b. 1733 and Ruth Tindall
b. 1740. My sister Phyllis may be corresponding also. Yes it connects
to Frank Gapen and Zelda Baker your
message mentioned. Do you want this

second wife of Lewis Gapen was
Martha Jamison Hart. Her first
husband was a Hart; 2nd husband
Lewis Gapen. The last child of
Lewis Gapen and Martha Jamison
Hart is the ancestor of Robert
D. Gapen and Robert D. Gapen Jr.
I have all dates, children etc
except for Robert D. Gapen Jr.
One interesting fact: The father
of Lewis Gapen was John Gapen b.
1764. He was one of the 60 who
was sent 2 years after the defeat
of General St. Clair (over 900
Americans were killed by Tecumsah
and Chief Blue Jacket). He was sent
as part of the 60 men to bury the
dead and to see if they could find any
trace of Daniel Boone; whom they thought
had been killed by the Indians. They
found many bones; but no trace of Daniel
Boone. This was around 1794. (about 350
Kentuckians had deserted General St. Clair
and went back to Kentucky)from Ohio. After
they buried the bones they built a fort and
named it Fort Recovery. This is present day
Fort Recovery, Ohio. After this they went
north and defeated Tecumseh etc., and allied
Indians at the Battle of Fallen Timbers by
the Maumee river near Toledo, Ohio. John
Gapen was apparently serving under General
Anthony Wayne. He is called Mad Anthony
Wayne. After the war (1794) John Gapen
went back to Pa; Greene Co., and married
Sarah Swope in 1794. Thus was born Lewis
Gapen in 1811; probably named after the
explorers Lewis and Clark around 1805-1808
(Meriwether Lewis). I have much more data.
Thanks for the reply Barbara. Mel
