In reply to Andrew,
Geap appears to be a variation of Gape.
In the late1830's,a family from Frampton in Dorset went to Wales and settled in Llanthewy Skirrid nr Abergavenny.
They were from a large Gape family which I have traced back to 1720's originating in Portesham Dorset

Look at this website and you will see all my entries for the Dorset Gape name under each place(Try Frampton,Portesham,Puncknowle& Puddletown for starters)

I'm of the Ystalyfera Gape branch, and I'm still living in South Wales.
Most Gapes back to the 1800s, it seems, are from Ystalyfera; but thanks to the emmigration of my great uncle to the Bahamas after the 2nd World War, there is now a pretty large group of Gapes around Nassau too.
I haven't yet found a link from myself to the Dorset Gapes, but there's probably one out there somewhere.

Could anyone with information about Aubrey, Kathleen and Raymond Gape, all siblings born around Ystalyfera during the early 1900s, please get in touch.

Thanks.

The family to which you are referring is that of Richard Gape b.1791 who moved to L.S. before 1841. Only one of his sons (George) married and his grandson Arthur seems to have no Gape descendants. There are some related Gapes of Dorset descent in the Cardiff area from a later immigration, brothers Thomas (1862)and Robert (1863) both Symondsbury, but most Gapes(and Gabes)in Wales can be traced back to William and Rachel marr. 1802 Llanfynydd.
Please feel free to e-mail me via Ancestry if you require any more details.

Hello Cicero62, I've managed to trace back to Rachel Gape born 1780 near Llandeilo. She had at least one son called Jacob (b.1818) who moved from Carmarthenshire to Ystalyfera during the 1830s. Is this the same Rachel as you mentioned, who married William in 1802? I was unable to trace a husband for her.
If so, I would be very grateful if you could send me the information you have for this branch of the family. (Jacob Gape was my great(x3) grandfather. For some reason, I can't work out how to email you on this! However, please feel free to email me at seg4@aber.ac.uk.
Thanks! Sara Gape.
