Most of my relatives live in or around that area, but I'm sure someone brought us over here. It is very interesting to see all of the different orgins. If any relation or any questions please e-mail me debm201@yahoo.com. Thanks..

John sure would like to discuss the Ganas Line with you. The Ganas Line from Lakeland, Georgia came from a Benjamin Connie Ganas who moved to Lowndes County, Georgia in 1827 from South Carolina with his mother Elizabeth Davis Ganos Carter and his step father Isaac Carter. B.C. Ganas's father was a Benjamin Ganos or A Benjamin Gurganus from North Carolina. His father was Uriah Gurganus who died abt 1789 in Duplin/Onslow County N.C. What is our orginal country? I do not know. I have had several ideas of where we came from passed on to me, but no one knows for sure. Also I believe that I have traced my line back to Jamestown, Va Abt 1608. Please feel free to contact me at jdganas@surfsouth.com

I saw your post in the message board and have replied to most I saw.
My name is Gary Ganas and am the only child from George and June Ganas. I'm in Col. OH.
and know dads father came from Sparta Greece and his mother from Dublin Ireland. My dad said that Ganas was a shortened version of another name and he did'nt know it.It was a much longer name.I did some other research and found some French derivitives like Deganay and Luganay and spelling differences like Duganais and Luganais, and found they had much land and fame in France. Although that really did'nt jive with what father told me about his father bieng from Greece.
His brothers and sisters names:Marie,Greg,Themis and Jim. I'm not sure where they live but I know Themis has past away and not sure of the rest. They all at one time lived in Liverpool Ohio.My fathers dad was in the poolhall business along with his two brothers, one of which wanted dad to become a lawyer and sent him to college prep school but his father told him not to continue because he did'nt like what the two brothers(dads uncles) were up to.What ever that was.My dad George Ganas had no middle name and has past away about 13 years ago.
I hope this might help and if you hear anything about dads original Greek name it'd be apreciated that you let me know. Thanks Gary

It was very interesting to have read to your message. My sister and I live in Brighton England and we were very excited when we saw your name. We know that our father was born in Lithuania and after the war he came to London to two aunts, one was named Minnie and the other was Ada. There is also a cousin in London, whose name is Lilly married to Joe, but I believe may have been born here, but not absolutely sure. S
