Gammage - Smith Marriage, Georgia, USA in 1826

Elizabeth Johnson Gammage married James H. Smith in Georgia in 1826. A Gammage was her first husband. Census records indicate she was born in South Carolina. She is buried in Conyers, Georgia. Does anyone have information on her parents and place of birth? She either had children by William Gammage or he had younger brothers for whom James H. Smith was appointed as a guardian.

James H. could have been her cousin but I'm not sure. He was born in South Carolina.

Gammage family

I am a real amateur but had to contribute my small piece of history to the chain. My dad was Albert Walter Gammage from West Haddon, Nr. Rugby, Northants, he was born in 1913 his mother was Fanny (nee Clarke). He had one brother, George and four step brothers and sisters. His father (also lived in West Haddon), Albert Gammage (killed in the first world war). I did read that Godfroi De Gammage came over to England with William the Conqueror, but whether we are actually related to him is probably very unlikely. I hope to go into this in more detail when I retire.
Best wishes to all Gammages in their search.
Gammage Connections

Hello fellow Gammages,

My research on the UK/US/Austrlain connections is continuing and at present I am tracking across UK using a professional researcher. The gap is getting closer to being closed aas it does now seem we have found a tentative link from the Northampton/Oxfordshire shires via Bristol to Wales. My researcher is examining records across the trail town by town and city by city. So far Little Brington, Lamport and daventry have featured and so have the two "exported" Cromwell Gammages. Whilst the research will still take some time (and many more dollars) I am determined to link the gap from de Gamaches to the presnt day and find the link to both my US and UK cousins. At presnt most of we Australian Northampton Gammages are living in splendid isolation. However, if you do wish to receive the information that is located please contact me on igammage@bigpond.com. Thank you.

Best wishes to all.

Cheers, Ian
Hello,
I am searching for "cousins" in the Gammage Line. Our great great grandfather was Deodatus Richard C. Gamage. He was born in England about 1847 and died in Arkansas about 1882. Married in about 1868 to Elizabeth Rogers in Hereford. Their children were Jane (Jennie) Gamage Klingensmith, Deo Datus John Gammage (Cook/Chef), Albert who was a Baptist Minister in Missouri, Dr. Thomas Rogers Gammage who lived in MO, CA and FL, Richard who retired from Dade Co., FL civil service, Agnes who married a Mr. Brown in MO and Bessie (Mrs. Welch) of KS.

Note: The family name in England was GAMAGE, it was changed to GAMMAGE in the US after the death of Deodatus Richard C. Gamage.

Sharon
