Hello,
I was hoping you might have more information on the Gambone/Fusco Family History and Genealogia.
You mentioned Angela and Alessandro Pizza in your post, these are my great-grandparents, their youngest daughter Lillian Joan was my grandmother. I have been searching for more information on the family still in Italy and the families history/heritage. I would love to hear from you.

Pasquale Gambone and Serafina Fusco in Montella

I am looking for any information on Pasquale Gambone's Family line as well as Serafina Fusco's family line.
Pasquale & Serafina were the parents of Angela Gambone who married Alessandro Pizza, they immigrated and settled in Chicago, Illinois. Were they had many children, their youngest Lillian was my paternal grandmother. So I am interested in any information about any family that remained in Italy as well as the history of both family lines. I unfortunately do not know any information previous to Pasquale and Serafina. All I know is that the families were from Montella, Avellino, Campania, Italy.Their Birth years were between 1860-1870.

I just read your post of 21 July 2002. My great grandfather,Joseph Gambone settled in Canton,Ohio. I don't know if he went through PA. He was born in 1862 in Montella and and married Maria Concetta Filomena Destefano who was also born in Montella. He died on 20 June 1943 in Canton and was buried in Calvary Cemetary. Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I hope to hear from you soon.

My granfathers parents came from there, i'm not quite sure when. But he had 7 brothers and sisters so... maybe there's a relation ? (:

Hi, in response to your request to hear from any Gambones from the Montella region, My father still has a house there which we visit regularly in Via del Ferrari, Montella, Avellino. There are still many residents of Montella with the Gambone surname.

My Grandfather and his brothers moved to the UK in the 1950's, my gran whos maiden name was Bello still has many relatives including sisters still living in Montella although many of her realtives settled in USA and Switzerland.

Hi,
In regard to not hearing about any Gambones in Penllyn, my maiden name was Gambone and I was born in Penllyn. My grandfather who was born in Montella Italy owned 13 homes in Penllyn when he died. He brought 2 of his brothers from Montella with their families and they lived in Penllyn for a while. Pasquale Gambone was my father's unclce. If you look at some of the old maps in the historical society, you will see the property that belonged to my Grandfather, Domenico Gambone

I am the granddaughter of an Edward Luke Gambone from Eastern Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh). I am interested in learning if the Gambones that you are researching are connected to my family. I believe my great-grandfather was James Vincent Gambone and possibly before him was a Vincent Gambone of Montella. My father's side is very scattered now and my grandfather was one of nine children, so I do not know much about our history. If you still check this board, I would love to know if there are any connections.

I just stumbled on this message board, here several years after the first inquiry.

I am a member of the Gambone family from Montella. My great-grandparents, Guiseppe and Maria, emigrated from Montella in the early 1900's, I don't have an exact year. Eventually they settled in the coal mining region of Fayette County in Southwestern Pennsylvania. I am told that Gambone is a very common name in Italy, so your search may be a challenge. Ruth, you may contact me for other questions. I am learning about my great-grandparents and their decendants are numerous and mostly along the eastern US.

Julie, wow! I haven't checked this site in an incredibly long time! I have not heard that name mentioned in family lore. My grandfather was an only child and I don't know how many siblings my grandmother had. I only know of Salvatore who came over. I don't know if any other siblings of my grandmother came over. I don't think there is any connection. Also, Pittsburgh is in Western PA; Philadelphia is in Eastern PA.

I'm researching Pasquale Gambone from Montella who married Serafina Fusco. Their daughter Angela married Alessandro Pizza in 1908 in Montella. Pasquale died in Philadelphia in 1901. Pasquale was a son of Berardino and Anna Carolina Gambone. Any help is appreciated.

Nonna Serafina è vissuta con noi fino alla sua morte avvenuta il 17/03/1957 alla veneranda età di 101 anni.
Zia Angela, maritata con Alessandro Pizza, è venuta a Montella nel 1947 e da allora non l’ho più vista.
Vorrei sapere perché cerchi notizie sui miei nonni e chi sei.

i live in france. my father is francois gambone, he lived in montella >1964. when he had 5 years old, his parents decided to leave italy to france.my grandfather is salvatore gambone. he died in 1974 or 1975.

i went for the hollidays when i was young in montella. i have seen the gambone's street in montella.montella is a "typique", "traditionnal" italien's city, with small and narrow street, and paving stone.

it's a old city, there haven't lots of youngs people.

iam amaze to be with my family the only gambone who lives in france. i notice that they have a lot of gambone in usa!

Hello my name is jon kotema and I am a decendent of the gambones from montella... my great grandfather was salvatore gambone and his wife was gacomine cali.. I belive that the last name cali was changed to that from something else when the came to america.... I also have a record of who all came over to america on the boat the came on and what all of them had with them when they came here... gacomine was from sicily and she was orfaned when she was 4... she was adopted into a rich family and moved to northern italy. They owned a plantation that sat on the border of italy and turkey... I only recently was contacted by a member of my great-grandmothers family. I had never had contact from anyone on my mothers’ side until recently. I don’t hear much from any of them except a daughter of Rose Gambone who married a Richard Farmer. One of the reasons I started working a family tree was to see who I am related to. The father to Rose, I believe is Ralph.

I just started researching the Gambones from canton, Ohio this week. I don't have much as my mother died in 1964, i was only 4 then and i just recently connected to my mothers side. i have a 1920 census record for canton that has Ralp and family, no wife listed living next door to my grandmother. i have a photo from when they all lived in canton and i know one just has to be Richard who married rose Gambone. i would love to hear from you. my sister and i are getting ready to go to mich soon and see my mothers brother who we just this year connected to and i hope to get some family history from him, he was sick recently so i'm not sure what i can get. cindy

I just recently found a 1920 census record for my Grandmother Herwick that shows her uncle Richard Farmer living next door to Ralp(59), Ernest(34), Jenevieve(29), and Rose(22) Gambone. Richard married Rose, I don't know when. now i wonder if the photo i have is with some of the Gambone relatives. I'm looking for any information i can on my mother Kitty's side, she died in 1964 and i am her youngest daughter. i just started doing a family tree in the latter part of 2002 and didn't get any real information until about 2004. i don't have very much but i have found some of my Offineer side. any help on the Gambone side would be very much appreciated. cindy

My maternal grandparents emigrated from Montella Avellino Italy. Michele Gambone had several brothers Ernesto, Franceco, Pasquale and a couple of others. any info would be appreciated. His wife was a Zavello and was probably from Montella also..

I lived in the Penllyn, Pa. area for (22) years and I was a police officer in neighboring towns for (35) years. My father was born in Montella, he passed about 6 years ago at the age of (88). He came to the Unites States at the age of (6). My family settled in Norristown, Pa. which is about (20) minutes from Penllyn. In all my years of living in that area and working there, I never met any Gambones there. However, there are many Gambone families residing in the Norristown, Pa. area. If you would like me to do some research for you, I would be happy to assist. By the way, Penllyn is a very small Community in Lower Gwynedd Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The population is very small. Norristown is the Montgomery County seat where the Courthouse is located. I hope this info is helpful to you.

Hopefully some of this information maybe useful to you.
My name is Gerardino Gambone, I live and was born in Wolverhampton, England.
Both my parents were born in Montella.
My father's name is Virginio and my grandfather's name is Salvatore. The Gambone on my father's side were colloquially know as 'Buccachi' ( please forgive me if my spelling is wrong, they were know as this name because of their liking for wine), my mother's sister also married an Gambone ( these Gambone are know as 'Jacinella' ( again please forgive any spelling mistakes)). These two Gambone's are not related.

I have heard that I am a Gambone a few generations back on my great-grandmother's side. She then married a Sarni (the funeral director in Montella). They had 10 kids the oldest of which was my grandmother who married a Schiavo and then emigrated to the US and settled of course in Norristown.
I visited Montella 30 years ago before the big earthquake. It was a quaint little mountain village at that time, full of my relatives. Have not had the opportunity to re-visit, have you?

Yes, my grandmother Marianna Gambone Sorrentino was buried with my grandfather Giovanni...but they are buried in St. Patrick's in Norristown, PA. Interesting to know there was another couple with the same names!
