Thomas Gamache, AL, GA, TX
Looking for any clues into my ancestors--
GGGG grandfather was Thomas Gamache, served in Revolutionary War. One of his child was Thomas Towns Gammage (my GGG grandfather), who moved to TX in 1841, was previously a merchant in GA and a planter in AL; was a lawyer in TX. His daughter, my GG grandmother, was Annie E. Gammage, b. about 1846.
A cousin of Thomas Towns was Govenor Troupe of Georgia and Thomas Towns' brother was Dr. W.L. Gammage of Mobile, AL, who was a surgeon in the army.
Any info would help me. Thanks!

Hello Linda, My great gf was Thomas Macion Gammage of Prescott, AR. He was born in Georgia and migrated to AR around 1840 or 1850. Do you think there is a link here? Dr Bill

Hi, Dr. Bill,
I haven't run across your great grandfather's name, but I've learned that that means very little.
According to what I know, which is really very little (left in notes from my grandmother), the Gammages came to America from France before the Revolutionary War. They were in GA around 1800, moved to Alabama by 1839 and then to Texas in 1841. They settled in the Nacogdoches/Marshall, TX (Harrison County) area. My ggg grandfather died in Marshall in 1854.
I know that they spelled they name differently at times. It was spelled Gamache/Gamage/Gammage.
So far I have listed for my ggg grandfather, Thomas Towns Gammage (b abt 1804, d. 1854),these children:
M.G. Gammage, b. abt 1824, GA Thomas Troupe Gammage Jr., b. abt 1831, GA (served in Civil War) L.A. Gammage, b. abt 1839, AL M.E. Gammage, b. abt 1841 Annie Elizabeth Gammage, b. abt 1846, TX (my gg grandmother)
Thomas Towns Gammage's father was Thomas Gamache. The only children I have listed so far for him (and I'm sure there were more) are:
Thomas Towns Gammage Dr. W.L. Gammage, Mobile, AL; surgeon in army.
I am having a really hard time tracking them down. I'll keep you in mind and would appreciate it if you'd do the same.

Linda! You are one of us! Your Thomas Gammage was the brother of my ggg-grfather, William Gammage. Thomas married Lucretia Townes. Their son, Thomas Townes, had a son named Thomas Troupe, and he was the one who came to TX early and was prominent in the Palestine area. Washington Lafayette Gammage, MD was brother of Thomas Troupe Gammage. We have a Gammage book that has much information on this family. It is called WILLIAM, THOMAS SOLOMON GAMMAGE and Their Descendants. Write to me at pgordon7@gte.net

Hi Elayne, Our cousins who went to Arizona, were from the Thomas Mancion Gammage line. Grady Gammage was President of Arizona State University at Tempe, AZ and is of this line Without a little more information, I cannot be sure of Joseph's line or if he is of our Gammage's. If he is, we can put him back to our first emigrant to America in the 1700's. Who were Joseph's parents? Do you know any other family members? Look forward to hearing from you soon.
