Hi Jim
my name is Claire Badorek. My grandfathers name was Gustav. I believe the name is Prussian. In the 1930s there was a soccor player named Walter Badorek. Hitler checked the parentage and history of all players whose names where not typically German. He traced the name, Badorek,to the German circle of Evangalists that where from East Prussia, Masuern to be exact, which is now part of Poland. I have always believed the name was Czech, Polish or Slavic yet I have not found any mention of it on any genealogy site relating to these countries. However there are a few in Prussia in the 1700-1800s. My family did not leave Europe until the 1970s and then immigrated to New Zealand we have never been to the U.S.
Regards Claire Badorek

Shannon,
my grandfather's father, of the name of John Gala was born in Poland, in or around Opatow Kielecki (Galicia). He came to United States, Flint area in 1900... I would have to ask my Dad,if he knows the date of birth of his. I am wondering if we are talking about the same Gala..

I have a picture of the Society of Melfi, Rochester, New York , early 1900s. In it are pictured two Galas: A. Gala and W. Gala. If you think these might be some of your relatives, let me know and I will email you the picture.

My name is Shannon Brewer Gala. My father's name is James Anthony Gala and all I know is that he had several brothers and sisters. From what I understand, my father had two sisters, Brenda and Sandy. He also had an aunt named Lodi and Mary but I do not know how to spell their last names. My grandfather was from Poland and my fathers mother died and his dad remarried to another woman that raised my father. My email is shannonbrewer1214@gmail.com if you would like to email me.
