Believe a William Gainey moved into Chowan County, NC from Isle of Wight, Virginia. William received a land grant in March of 1713 in Chowan County. His will was settled in November 1739 in Bertie County, NC. His son Thomas was executor. Thomas subsequently moved with his wife Martha and sons, Annanias and Stephen, into the Marion, SC area and settled on Catfish Creek.
