Shirley;

Could this be a breakthrough? My brother Sean [sogahan@sprint.ca] may also answer you. Our grt.grt.grt. grandfather, Peter Gahan [Catherine Murphy] had at least 7 children; Mary b. 1806; Patrick b. 1807; Thomas b. 1809 [?infancy death]; Richard b. 1810; Peter [Jnr.] b. 1812; Michael b. 1814; John b. 1816; Thomas b. 1819 all events having taken place in New Ross, Co Wexford. We don't know where Peter Catherine were born or married. Richard [Mary Fardy] was our grt. grt. grandfather and one of his 4 children, Matthew, was our grt. grandfather. We have no further information, in terms of marriages emmigration etc, on Richard's siblings. Matthew, with his two brothers, Peter [3rd] and Richard [Jnr.] emmigrated to Montreal about 1853. We have some information on all their marriages. Their sister, Johanna, emmigrated later, also to Montreal. I don't think Peter 3rd is who your'e looking for but the two previous may well be. Peter 3rd married twice in Montreal, 1871 - Mary McCarthy 1879 - Marion Gordon. He had a son, Richard Daniel b. 1872 d. 1874. He is buried in montreal. Cote des Neiges Cemetery.

DO PLEASE get back to me. Gahans were all over the Diocese of Ferns which includes almost all of Wexford and some of Wicklow and Carlow. We might well connect. Can you flesh out some of your data please - Births, marriages and dates as well as locations.

You may contact me at my Email address: gahanr@cadvision.com. I'm holdin' my breath as your query looks promising!!

Should have mentioned in my previous that I had responded to your cousin Deb but advised her I didn't think we were of help. But now I think we should look into this more completely.

Boolavogue Gahans

Hello Mary;

Virtually all of the Ireland information on our family GAHAN is contained in my previous posting. We had resaon to believe for a long time our family also came from Ferns/Harrow/Boolavogue. Eventually we found them in New Ross but don't know when they established there. We do know that Peter Gahan and Catherine Murphy were married elsewhere but there children were all born and baptised in New Ross.

Many years ago my eldest brother found a baptismal of who he then thought was our grt. grandfather, Matthew Gahan, in 1846 at Boolavogue [St. Cormac's church] the son of a Matthew Gahan and Catherine Fenlon. We still believe however that we shall eventually find a connection to the Boolavogue Gahans.

There are still at least four Boolavogue Gahan families listed in the phone book, one of whom I spoke with a little more than a year past. Also, Prof. Daniel Gahan of Evansville University [or is it the University of Indiana at Evansville??] and the author of a number of books about the Irish Rebellion of 1798 is also closely connected to Boolavogue.

My brother and I have established several Email contacts with other Gahan searchers some of whom are convinced they connect to Wexford/Wicklow Gahans. I'll be happy to forward your message on to them if you like but I'd suggest you give me some more detailed info on your grandmother.

I'd also be happy to keep in close touch with you in an effort to share our discoveries for mutual benefit. I would suggest that if you wish to contact me you do so at my Email address; gahanr@cadvision.com

Best wishes;

Robert,
My 3rd great grandfather on my father's side was Maurice Patrick Gahan, born about 1820. His son was Patrick William Gahan, b. 26 Mar 1840 in Skinners Edy, Bedford, PA. I was wondering if it might be possible for Maurice to be a child of Peter Gahan? My email is oregonmomof5@hotmail.com. Thanks for your help!
Denise

Surnames: Gahan
My 3rd great grandfather was Patrick Gahan, b. 1811, Dunquin Parrish, County Kerry, Ireland. He moved to the US with his brother Maurice in 1835, settling in the Dushore area of Sullivan County, PA.

Dushore is 25-30 miles from Skinners Eddy, PA. Old notes from Mildred Snyder, grand daughter of this Maurice, indicate that Maurice didn't remain "here" long. She also references a Sullivan County history that references Patrick and Maurice but I haven't found anything new in it.

Just a long shot, but does any of this connect with your Maurice Patrick Gahan?

Thanks in advance, Marilynn
