Most of my Gager info came from relatives & Harry G. Gager's information that he posted in the NYC Public Library. I was able to get some copies at my library. They will send them for a fee. Higginson books also has a small book that helped get me started. This all started with a piece of one of the books my mother had of her father's a part of a copy of Harry G. Gager genealogy study which told of him placing info there. Natan was my ggg grandfather , his son Thomas Walter was my gggrandfather, he had 5 children Freeman Ellsworth Gager (MY Greatgrandfather was the 2nd youngest b 1855 & Harry Garfield Gager was the youngest b 1877. He never married. I guess that's how he had time for all this family history. Anyway if I can help let me know. Happy hunting. Linda

Freeman Gager is my Great-Great-Grandfather and Thomas is my GGGGrandfather. I have Thomas married to Delia Hatch (m. (5/27/1841) with Freeman being born in March 1855. I found your information facinating. I wonder if the information I have about Thomas' parents was correct -- I have Thomas' Father as Nathan and his mother as Phoebe Wood. I noted in your second post on 18 Jan 2003 that Nathaniel was married to Mary Griffen 5/27/1798 without a Thomas as a child (omitted? 10 listed). Just a little confused.
I am related to Freeman's son Edward, Edward's son Wallace, My dad, Warren born in Babylon, NY 1925.
Thanks for any other information you might have...

Linda, I was wondering if you have ever come across an Ira Gager, born about 1824 in New York. He lived in Michigan most of his live, but I do see two of his children born in New York and two born in Canada. I think he is the father of my gg Grandfather Caleb Gager. Thanks for reading this. Hi Jerry, Sorry I haven't replied before now. Any way you are a little confused the names can be at times as I discovered. Nathan & Nathaniel Gager are brothers. not the same person as you might almost assume. They are 2 of the 10 children of John (Jagger) Gager & Mercy Brown. This is where it gets tricky for some reason the name Jagger which in "dutch" is Gager was changed. All of their children went by the name of Gager. Their children are Robert b 1760 d 1852 Nathaniel b1763 d bef 1849 Hannah b 1764 d 1857 John b 1767 d 1850 Phebe b 1771 d 1851 Thomas b 1774 d 1846 Sarah b 1776 d? Joshua Reuben 1781 d 1855 Nathan b March 4, 1787 d. May 5,1872 M. Phoebe Wood Dec. 17, 1809 m again after 1847 ? Anna M. Holden Noah b 1789 d 1864
Now their son Nathan had 10 children Betsey Lorinda b 1813 d 1819 Thomas Walter b August 4,1817 d July 5, 1875 m Delia Hatch May 1841 Oscar Griswold b 1818 d? Andrew Wood b 1821 d 1883 Timothy Gilbert b 1822 d 1890 Sarah Orinda b 1824 d ? Orilla Marie b 1827 d 1903 Alson Wheeler b 1829 d 1896 Orlow Clinton b 1831 d 1880 Orvil Harvey b 1815 d 1872 I hope this helps cousin, my great grandfather was Freeman Ellsworth Gager, my Grandfather was Charles Smith Gager Happy Hunting Linda

Loretta, Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply. But we had a few family emgencies, anway Yes I do have an Ira Lucious Gager born June 28, 1825 died 3/8/1892 he was the son of Noah Gager b 9/7/1789 in Dutchess Co. NY & Mercy Brown. Noah died May 7, 1864 in Keswich, York Co. Ontario, Canada. they had 13 children: Samantha Emeline b 1817 Malissa Ann b1818 Harriet Caroline b1819 Jane Catherine b 1821 Ira Lucious b 1823 Alonzo Harvey b 1825 Lydia Margaretb 1826 Owen Phillip b 1828 Angeline Amada b 1830 Nathan W. b 1832 Avis Henietta b 1834 Elizabeth b 1836 Lauretta Louis b 1840
John's father was John Jagger b 12/7/1702(the name changed with his children) Jagger is the dutch form of Gager. John Jagger father was Jonathan Jagger b1678 his father was John Jagger b 1641, His father was Jeremiah Jagger b 1602 He was rumored to have arrived on the ship Arabella in 1635. Sarah Gager was born February 1651 probably in Norwich Connecticutt. She was the daughter of John Gager and Elizabeth Gore. Her father, John Gager was born May 25 1620 in Little Waldingfield, Suffolk, England and he came to America in 1630, with his father Dr William Gager on the ship Arbella with John Winthrop (Massachusetts Bay Company). Sarah's father John Gager is the progenitor of most Gager's in America. Caleb Fobes is also spelled as Forbes. He too was from the Norwich Connecticutt area. I hope this helps.
