Re Daniel Gagen I believe he came from my mothers side of the family. Have heard about him though. This Gagen family were from near Kings Lynn in Morfolk. My grandfather was Earnest Harry, born 1890 near Downham market and I beleive Daniel was an uncle/great uncle. May give you something to go on. One of my aunts did trace the family line many years ago, hence my having heard of him. The family line was traced back to Holland, the Gagens having come to England at the time of William of Orange circa 1688.

Can you tell me how to go about tracing my lineage? My name is Daniel Gagen. I'm over on the east coast (NJ). I've been told that there may have been a different spelling of my last name originally, and that my ancestors are from Ireland. I can't get much more as my father has passed away, and his parents were gone before I was born. I would like to learn my family history, so I can teach my children were we originated. Thanks for any help you can offer.

The Irish spelling could be Geoghan or similar. Finding your past is not to hard. If you know your fathers date of birth look for him. That should give you your grandfathers name and possibly his age. Again it is a question of looking him up but if he came from Ireland it may be more difficult but if you have a rough birth year it helps. The Gagen family name spelt as is originates from Holland/Germany or at least my ancestry does.

Hi, just started looking for my family and found you right away, my great-grandfather was Thomas Gagen, born in Kings Lynn, Norfolk and we were always told he and his brother both came to Canada and then went their separate ways, one going to the U.S. and my great grandfather settling in southern Manitoba, with all that information I am sure we are cousins. I have a letter from Ashland Ave., Evanston, Illinois from someone named Flossie or Florrie, hard to read the old style writing. I have quite a bit of family history here. Bev Rivette

Hi, Bev - it was lovely to hear from you. Could you please let me know your great-grandfather's year of birth and then I will be able to locate him on the family tree? Perhaps if you could also let me know who his father and mother were and occuaptions it might also give pointers. Best regards Sue

Hi Sue, found out some more information, Daniel"s parents were John gagen born 3 July, 1796 and Charlotte Bates, born 1 Oct. 1817, he was one of 12 children , my great great grandfather was his older brother and (my mistake) he was not the one who came to Canada, it was his son Thomas, Henry my great-great grandfather (Daniel's brother) was born June 11,1829 and Thomas, my great grandfather was born June 9, 1856. Henry and Daniel and their 10 other siblings were born in Terrington, Norfolk, 6 boys and 6 girls, I have the family line traced back to 1660 to a William Gaging and his wife Ann, no other information on her, their only son, William Gageing (who knows the correct spelling, both are listed)born 24 Nov. 1665. I have the whole history to the start of the 20th century where it became so scattered we have all lost track. Daniel has a notation by his name in our genealogy that he came to America, settled in Wisconsin and married an Indian girl.
