Hello, Bev

Defintely the same family as mine! My 3xgreat grandfather was William Reader Gagen, a master mariner, who comes from that line. I have mislaid my family tree but I think that John and Charlotte were his parents. William's wife was called Martha Bush and his eldest son (born about 1830) was also WIlliam who settled in London, marrying Harriet Bassett in 1857. My great-grandfather was one of his sons (George). My grandfather and father were also named George. I know quite a lot about Daniel, as we have a cousin who lives in Victoria, Canada (Ed Gilman) who kindly did a lot of research into Daniel. There was a small town in Wisconsin named after him (Gagen). I'd be grateful if tou could scan anything you have - including illegible letters! - and send them to me at suegagen@yahoo.co.uk. Some later relatives also went to the USA and Canada. We have cousins in both western and eastern Canada but I think the US ones did not have children (my great-grandfather's sister, Elizabeth Gagen, whose married name was Belcher - they lived in Washington state).
Best regards SUE

Hi Sue, wow, great to find out all this information, I'm not very good at scanning but will try and send you the documentation, bear with me, it could take awhile. My list of the childrens names says the son, your 3x great grandfathers was George Reader Gagen born 24 Feb.1821 married Elizabeth Morton but a generation earlier, a brother to John, who married Charlotte was a George Reader Gagen also. He was born in 1794 in West Lynn, Norfolk. Will send out that info as soon as I figure out how. All my best, Bev

Hi, Bev - I have now found the family tree. My 3xgreat-grandfather was William Reader Gagen, not George Reader Gagen. I was mistaken in my memory of his being the son of John who married Charlotte. John was in fact his brother. I have read stories about George Reader Gagen on web sites. He was a registrar in east London and was very respectable. Ed Gilman in Canada is descended from John Bradshaw Gagen, who was a son of John and Charlotte. John Bradshaw had a son called George, who was second cousin of my great-grandfather and lived near to my branch of the family in south London (so obviously knew each other - and did the same job as my gret-great-grandfather, carpentry). If you let me have your e-mail address I can scan the tree and send it to you. Best regards. SUE

Hi Sue, hopefully you got the family info I sent you and I would really appreciate you sending me your branch of the tree, to rbrivet@shaw.ca. I live in Alberta, Canada and was wondering if your family is still in Norfolk. Thanks for everything, Bev.
