Gaffey's from Co Roscommon, Ireland
Hi fellow researchers, I have a listing of all Gaff(e)y baptims from 1789 to 1903 at St Peter and Pauls, Athlone (about 300 entries) plus some marraiges. If someone can advise me how to enter these onto a website i'll be happy to do it. Also a copy of "Drum and its hinterland" which lists the Gaffeys back in the 1600's in Drum, Roscommon It seems the Gaffeys were originally from Roscommon, but spread into Galway and Westmeath (bordering counties) The parish of Drum is next door to Moore parish. Has anyone checked the shipping indexes from Ireland to U.S? Im chasing my g/g grandfather John Gaff(e)y and his wife Mary who went to America about 1860/1865 with daughters Ann and Bridgid Hoping i can help, have also photographed every Gaffey grave over there in the Drum Old Cemetery

I didn't know the Gaffeys originated in Drum. Our lot came from near Athlone and their burial ground was in Clonmacnoise. You can put your information on a website with eircom. I have built my own, have a look at it this web address: http:/homepage.eircom.net/~mcdonaldsfarm/ Thanks, Marian

Re: Gaffey's from Co Roscommon, Ireland
Hello Michael, My grandmother, Ellen Keane, was born in Ros-common. She married (allegedly) an Englishman, John Gaffey. Ellen emigrated (don't know if John was with her at the time) to Newark, N. J.,USA in the late l800's or early l900's, just don't know, & none of her daughters, Mary & twin Helen, Catherine Adele,(all reportedly born in Roscommon) Beatrice, Janet & John, Jr.(born in Newark, N. J.) are living. I've been unsuccessfully trying to identify John, Sr., who disappeared in the early l900's, supposedly in the US. How do I access those births, etc. you discovered? Thanks, Vince Warger, vjjqwarger@cs.com

Posting to a website is pretty easy if you have the site you want to post to. I found my GGG Grandmother, Jane Gaffey's voyage to the U.S. Like most Irish, she didn't come direct, but from Liverpool, arriving in NY 25 Apr 1849 aboard the Caroline Read. Her husband, John, must have already died in Ireland. If I remember correctly (I don't have the record in front of me) she brought children John, Patrick, Daniel, Edward, Thomas, Elizabeth and Peter on the ship with her. They settled in Hartford, then some went to Meriden, CT. I haven't been able to trace her to Ireland. She was born about 1800, her oldest son, John, about 1827, the youngest, Peter, about 1848, so just before she left Ireland.

Re: Gaffey's from Co Roscommon, Ireland
Trying to find relations to Mary Gaffey who married John Curran. Mary Gaffey went back to Ireland and when she realized there was an arranged marriage she went back to the USA at that point she met John Curran. they had a son John Arthur Curran who married Alice Nohelty. Daughter of Martin Nohelty. They are from Woburn MA. Any info to someone who can trace themselve to me would be appreciated. If I need to answer questions I can certainly do that.
