Re: Gaffey's from Co Roscommon, Ireland
My Gaffeys are from County Roscommon/Galway, and I think their parents may have come from Athlone. I would love to see your information (including cemetery information) if possible. Thank you. Bernadette

Re: Gaffey's from Co Roscommon, Ireland
Hello Mr Curran My family (Gaffey) lived in Bloomhill Ireland. We link in with a Mary Gaffey. I struggled for years to trace my relatives and only have a small amount of information. Mums an old girl now and her memory is a little confused at times.. However, she remembers Bloomhill, the dances and all her friends with a girl like glow. If i can help you or anyone on here clarify the family tree on Bloomhill i will. I will post what i know next week. Karen Gaffey.

Re: Gaffey's from Co Roscommon, Ireland
Hello My Name is Jack Gaffey and I live in Roscommon Ireland. Your right well almost, the gaffeys came to Ireland with the norse invaders (vikings) and settled almost excluseively in the Athlone area I myself would love to see your records of the Gaffeys because I am having trouble getting past my great great grandfather. The name Gaffey it's self in fact is the Anglisiced version of Mac Gaibhidhe. This is a somewhat butchered variation of the Irish "son of the blacksmiths" This was a common saying to describe the vikings because of their skill in iron smithing. Also dental records show that we have striking norwegian features eg. Large front teeth and deep roots, along with our height, Blond hair and blue eyes. I hope you will reply to me soon with some of the information of my ancestors
