Surnames: Greisen, Gaffaney, Gelback, Hoeflinger
Hello,
I am desperately, but persistently, trying to find a photograph of my mother-in-law’s mother. I am contacting the Mary Ann Greisen family for help with this because Mary Ann was married to Jacob Hoeflinger. I am also going to post this request on message boards for Johanna Greisen married Gaffaney, and Susan Anne married Gelback.
Jacob was married 4 times and had one son. Let me give you some information so you know where I am going with this.
Jacob was born in, as far as I can tell from ship’s passenger list, in BudaFok-Teteny, Budapest, Hungary. BudaFok-Teteny is District XXII on the Danube River and is the closest I can find for what was written on the ships list, “Tetiny in Austria”. At the time Jacob emigrated to America (arrived Philadelphia 1913, final destination Cleveland, Ohio) the Austro-Hungarian empire had not been broken up, he lists himself as Hungarian on subsequent naturalization papers and census lists.
He married Anna (last name unknown, born Hungary 1897) in Ohio in c. 1915, and had a son John Jacob Hoeflinger born 1916, died 1999, the only child Jacob had as far as I know.
Jacob, Anna, and John moved to Los Angeles sometime between 1922 (naturalization in Cleveland) and 1925 when Anna died.
2nd marriage for Jacob: 1927 to Josephine Pecci Salera. Josephine was born in Italy to Michele (Mike) Pecci and Rosina Magliono. Her first husband was James Salera, died 1927. She had no children with Jacob, but brought to the marriage 5 children from marriage to James Salera. They all appear in the 1930 census. Josephine died in 1932.
3rd marriage for Jacob: 1935 to Anna Mary Konczos, she died in 1939
4th marriage for Jacob: 1947 to Mary Ann Greisen.
Here is the problem: When Josephine died, the children went into orphanages and foster care in Los Angeles County. Any effects from her life went who knows where. Of the 5 children of Josephine, only one is still living, my mother-in-law. She will be turning 90 next year and I would dearly love to find a photograph of her mother, she has never had a photo of her, or anything of hers, and does not remember what she looks like.
So my question is, is it possible that there is a box of Josephine’s stuff sitting somewhere in someone’s garage, handed down through Jacob Hoeflinger, or possibly his son, John Joseph, also deceased, to the heirs or relatives of Mary Ann Greisen Hoeflinger? Does anyone have a wedding picture of Jacob Hoeflinger and Josephine Salera?
Here are the children of Josephine and James Salera, living with Jacob Hoeflinger on 1930 census:
Frank Salera b. 1913 Pittsburgh, PA – d. 1991 Los Angeles, CA
Mario Salera b. 1919 Pittsburgh, PA – d. 2004 Los Angeles, CA
Carlo Salera b. 1922 Los Angeles, CA – d. 1990 Los Angeles, CA
Yolanda Salera b. 1923 Los Angeles, CA – d. abt 2005 Los Angeles, CA
Rosemary Salera b. 1925 Los Angeles, CA – still living.
Thank you,
Lynne
