Gaddes in Australia and England

Hi to all the Gaddes' out there!

I'm pretty sure that my g-g-g-grandfarther William Gaddes (1832-1902)was the first Gaddes in Australia, his father's name was Richard (1790-1862)and he was a blacksmith in Newcastle, England, but I don't think they were originally from there. I think there were originally from the Cumberland, in Longtown?? area.
Anyway i have his whole history from when he left Newcastle and then in Australia right down to me.
Just want to know if anyone in UK knows anything about his dad and mother (Christina Sinclair d. 1841) and if he had any brothers and sisters, grandparents etc.
I know that he never saw his parents or any family after he left Newcastle.
He also married Jane Mackay (1840-1931) they also had about 8-10 kids, Robert is the 4 or 5 kid and thats my g-g-grandfather.
Please someone reply..lol

Oh and don't you all get tired of Gaddes being pronounced as Gaddeees or Gaddiis!!!

Surnames: Gaddes
Rebecca - I would just make the point you need to post the names of William's parents, his age, and birthplace and father's occupation as given on his 1856 first person marriage record (NSW marriages #1856-1344). It can be obtained from an online NSW transcription agent for less than $20. There is no 1862 death indexed for a William Gaddes at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. You say the maiden name of his mother was Christina Sinclair and she died in 1841 but you do not say where. There is no death of a Christina Gaddes (or its phonetic variants) indexed for that year. The indexes have a 1839 Christianna Gaddes (March Qtr. 1839 v. 25, p. 51) death who was buried on 26 Mar 1839 at Cochermouth in Co. Cumberland who may have been the Christine Sinclair who had a Richard born on 22 Oct 1817 at Arthuret in Cumberland whose father was Richard Gaddes. However an online LDS church pedigree file with no source given has that William's parents were John and Sarah. All the other genealogy files I have seen on his line list his mother's name just as Christina - seemingly derived from that given in his 1902 indexed death registration record that had his parent names just as Richard and Christina both being names bestowed on children. That his headstone in Bowraville Cemetery says he was aged 70 at death does not necessarily mean he was born in 1832. He may have really been say 72 and born in 1929 or 1830. If he was an orphan he may not have known his parent names so they may not even be in his marriage record. What is always needed before searching for a person's origins is to ascertain and quote what is in the earliest available first person record as stories written descendants are just that and can contain way off the mark assumptions presented as fact that can mislead until proven incorrect.

cheers
John
