Hello, I am not related. If you look at the 1895 census again, and scroll to the right of Elizabeth Christofer, it states that she is the mother of farmer. The Lilienthal family is the next family down in the 1895 census.

Also found this in the 1900 census. Hope this helps. RP

What does the [F.] stand for?
Looks like Wm F & Emma had 3 children according to census records.
Any idea what the sisters & brother's names are?
Younger or older than him?
Looked at 1860, 1879, 1880 census.
There are a number of 'Gaddes' that are on ship list.
Also a number of 'Gaddes' in Civil War from bn about 1834/1838
Found on 1895 & 1905 census in MN. Territorial

Hi again,

Not sure if I am on the right track. Could this be Elizabeth & William in the 1880 census? Could the name have been spelled Gerdes, but pronounced Gaddes? or vice versa?

1880 United States Federal Census
Home in 1880: La Porte, La Porte, Indiana

Household Members: Name Age

Elizabeth Gerdes, head, age 64, widowed, born about 1816 Meklenburg, parents born Meklenburg

William Gerdes, son, age 16, born about 1864 Indiana, parents born Meklenburg
----------
Could this be the family in 1870, minus the 3 sisters? Maybe married by then? Could Elizabeth have been Louisa Elizabeth in Mecklenburg? William's age is off by 3 years.

1870 United States Federal Census
Home in 1870: La Porte, La Porte, Indiana
Post Office: La Porte

Household Members: Name Age

Christ Gerdes, age 59, Born about 1811 Mecklenburg
Louisa Gerdes, age 57, Born about 1813 Mecklenburg
Charles Gerdes, age 9, Born about 1861 Mecklenburg
William Gerdes, age 3, Born about 1867 Indiana

I was going to respond with the same info that another poster, Rpokorny, had. That person, Gerdes, seems to be the most likely candidate with the info you had, and with the records available.

Also on Castle Garden records, there is an arrival on 9/3/1863 of C. Gerdes 42, wife Elisabeth 44, Maria 9, and Carl 2. Unfortunately that data base doesn't have many other details, like where they were going to, or from.

On the census there was also a Henry Gerdes in LaPorte IN, whose age was close to Christ, and could be a brother.
