Re: Gach Y-chromosome DNA

It is now possible to trace family relationships through DNA and as only males carry Y-chromosome DNA it is being used to confirm relationships between families bearing the same surname. In 2004 I gave a Y-chromosome sample to a research project at www.smgf.org . It was free and painless and I hope that any males bearing the surname GACH who read this will be interested enough to go to that website and request a test kit [to collect some cells from the inside of the mouth]. The test participant would then return the kit to the lab along with a four generation [minimum] male line family tree. SMGF puts the results in their data bank which can then be accessed for comparison.

Hi. I saw the location of your Kesselman family.
We are not Kesselmans, but we are descendants of Gartsmans
I have researched the town of Chabna (Chabne) for many years.
My great great grandfather was the rabbi of the shtetl and was murdered by the Nazis at the age of 96. We know almost everyone in these shtetls was related in some way (travel was dangerous and less common).
My grandmother (now 92) grew up thinking her whole family had been murdered, but after doing some extensive research, it appeared that half of the family survived (Avrum and his wife had 12 children and about 36 grandchildren by the time of the war). The family that survived had fled to the east and had been living in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan until 2004, when they immigrated to Israel. I visited them and they told me that many members of the younger generations did so.
I do however have the sad stories too abou those who could not leave in time (I can share if you would like).

Steve,

My name is Lisa Deckter. I believe I may have some answers for you about the Decker (part of my family doesn't have the t in their last name as we do).   I was researching the Decker/Deckter family when I ran across you post entitled "Gach Futterman".

The of names and places you listed are familiar to me. Abe, Bessie, Decker, Michigan then California. And actually before Michigan they were in Philadelphia were the majority of my family remains. And we are Jewish.

How about of you email me, as there is  names, and relationship, places info, etc.

My email address is :

(please don't forget the T after the K in my last name).

Thanks,
Lisa Deckter
