If you still read this board, I'd love to talk to you more about the Gabay family. My mother was a Gabay and her father, Frederick Arthur Gabay, was born in 1895 to Frederick W Gabay (son of Henry Gabay). My name is Erik Gilliland and all I know about the Gabays is through Census information. Frederick Arthur was deaf (suspected childhood disease and had Piebaldism - a condition that causes white streaks in the hair). If you have any information I would love to talk.

Hi Cindy,

I just ran across your posts regarding our grandmother Ruth Gesser Gabay's ancestry. I am interested in finding out what you have learned as I am also working on a family tree. Since I also have the white forelock it is interesting to me to find out where it originated. Hope to hear from you soon. Marissa

Surnames: Hoffman, Gabay
Hi, Marissa.
Why don't you contact me by email as well: cwoverfi@gmail.com

Meanwhile, what I've come up with on the white forelock trait, is this: Susan(na) Hoffman was the bearer of this genetic anomaly or so I'm told. She was German, of course. The trait is not uncommon in areas of Germany. Our cousin, Eric Gilliland, Patricia Gabay's son, also has the trait and when his young son was born, he had him tested. He has some interesting data on what the MDs told him. The gene was passed on heavily in his family. He has a profile in ancestry.com, too.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Love, Me
