Hello, My name is Dan Gaba (John Daniel Gaba). I currently live in New York City, but I was born and raised in Louisville, Ky. My father was Charles Raymond Gaba, originally from Jackson, Tn. Charles Raymond was a Baptist minister and Dermatologist. Charles Raymond's father, my grandfather, was J. Raymond Gaba, a Chief of Police in Jackson, Tn. J. Raymond's father, my great grandfather, was Charles Lafayette Gaba a cabinet maker, also of Tn. I have also heard of other Gabas. Lester Gaba was a sculptor who made mannequins; highly sought after by New York City department stores in the WWII era. Lester was also the author of several books on soap sculpturing. Then, there's Marianne Gaba of Chicago, Il. Marianne was an actress and Playboy Magazine playmate of the month, September 1959. Amongst other films, she was in the Elvis Presley movie "G.I. Blues" and according to gossip/celebrity magazines of the day, was romantically linked with both Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson, amongst others. That's about all I know of the Gaba family but would love to know more. I'm especially interested in the country of origin of the Gabas, as I have never heard the same story twice. Any and all information on the Gabas would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email me with any and all information and questions. Thanks, Dan Gaba

Hi Dan Saw your e-mail as I was searching Gabas. Marianne is my cousin though I have not seen her in many years and probably would not remember me even though I am named after her brother Charlie who passed away as a young man of twenty and she is my godmother. And indeed she did date Ricky Nelson and he even came to my Aunt and Uncle's house to meet the folks and we got to go over and meet him too. I grew up in Lyons Ill, a suburb of Chicago with other Gaba cousins, all girls. There were seven kids with four brothers and three sisters, also two older half siblings named Cihak. Only one of the brothers had sons that are still living. One of our cousins did an extensive family tree history and have visited the Czech Republic where our grandparents are from, in Bohemia right on the Austrian border. Can't remember the city though. They came over in about 1907.
I am really trying to find the origins of the name Gaba. I have read there was a group of Celts in Eastern Europe called Gabales who worked in Silver mines in the first century BC. By the way how do you pronouce your name, we say it as Gay-ba but I know some who pronouce it as Gob-ba

Hi all,
My name is Teresa Gaba Cobb. My father was John Gaba and my grandfather was Martin Francis Gaba. I live in Jackson, TN. I have heard about Marianne Gaba, but have never seen her pictures. I'm guessing her father was one of my grandfather's brothers. He had several siblings. Would love to see or maybe add to a family tree.

J. Raymond Gaba was chief of police here in my town, Jackson, TN. There was also a builder, Horace Gaba, who has a daughter who lives here and a son, David, who has posted on this site.
My name is Teresa Gaba Cobb. My grandfather was Martin Francis Gaba. I believe his father was Joseph and his grandfather was Isaac.

My family has always pronounced our name GAY-ba.

Hey... I think my grandfather, Jim Gaba told me about his research on the Gaba family, Isaac Gaba, and how originally the Gaba family lived in TN for a long time... anyways it sounds like we might be related... and we pronounce Gaba, GAY-BA as well.

Larisa,
Your dad, Eddie, was my cousin. You've met me, you were just too young to remember. How are your grandparents? I'd love to have your grandfather's email address.
