Happy New Year to you also Liliane!

I did not receive your updates! I checked and my computer did not block them so I don't know what happened. Would you be able to send them again?

Christine

Well, it's interesting here. i am a Gaasch, too, born in the Brandenburg-Area, Germany, too. All I found out was that "Emil Gaasch" born in 1840 in Landsberg (Warthe) [today Poland) was the earliest born Gaasch I could find. Maybe there were two Gaasch-Clans between Luxembourg & Germany (former Poland)? But we should not forget that in the early 1770's France/Luxembourg were german for a short time. Maybe they moved eastern?

Surnames: GAASCH/GASCH
The toponym of the name GAASCH is GASCH. The Gasch's come from the village GARSCHE, today's called GARCHE next to Thionville. At the beginning of the 17th century they moved
to central Europe, including Luxembourg, but later they settled down in eastern Europe.
In Luxbg they added a second 'a' to the name Gasch, probably
because of the pronounciation of their language.
Your name is written with two "a's", your ancestors passed Luxbg before they moved forward to eastern Europe.

How did you figure that out? Is that for sure? I am just wonderung because in 1993 I returned from Brandenburg to Saarland. Incrdedible that my former relatives came from here where I returned to.

Garché is near Thionville, not so far away from Saarbruecken. And did the "Gaasch"s move later to the USA?

regards
Marcel Gaasch
