I am searching information about my ancestors in Canada, I am norwegian. My grandfathers brother Bernhard or spelled Bernard Kristian or spelled Christian Gaare, Bernhard Kristian Gaare or Bernard Christian Gaare, married a norwegian girl around 1916-1917. Her name was Emma Pedersen due to information I have at this time. She was born, just like Bernard, in Norway. Emma Pedersen was born due to the emigration statitics from the city Trondheim Port in Norway 1916 May 11, in 1889 in Dverberg on an Island called Andøya in Nordland in Norway. When she moved from Norway she was a shop-assistant, and she was engaged in Bernard Gaare, not married, but they got married in his brothers home in Canada, Turtleford, Sask, probably in 1916 or 1917. Bernards brothers name was Martin Johan Gaare marred Anna Gaare, both from Kvæfjord in Troms, Norway. Martin Johan and Anna emigrated from Norway in 1907 with to kids, Hedvig or Hedley Alice Bendikte and Alf Henry. Hedley was born in 1897 and Alf Henry was born in 1906, less than 1 year when they left Norway - "they" was Bernard Christian Gaare, his brother Martin Johan Gaare and his wife Anna Gaare born Hansdatter, and their to kids Hedley Alice Bendikte and their son Alf Henry. I have some information about the Martin Johan Gaare-family in North-America. But just little about Bernard Gaare and his wife Emma Gaare.

Bernard Gaare and Emma Gaare bought some land in Turtle Grove I think, but late Bernard got ill, and Emma Gaare disposed the farm. One source is telling this happened n 1937. They moved to the town. I am not sure what town, but one source is telling it could have been Barhead, Alberta. Later Emma Gaare moved to Victoria because she had a friend from the Turtleford time and Emma Gaare took in roomers and boarders for a living. Then she moved to Vancouver, British Colombia and worked as a cook in a retirement home in Shaugnessy Heights.

Due to other information, a picture of his tombstone, Bernard died in 1941, but I have no information about he moving from Turtelford district to Victoria, or Barhead, Alberta or other places. I seems due to my information that Emma Gaare and Bernard Gaare could have split in 1937 if this information about moving is correct.

One source is telling that Bernard and Emma Gaare got a girl and that she, Alice Gaare was married Norman Scott in 1938. The same source is telling that he had taught in the Carlsbad District and later at the University. Alice Gaare/Scott passed away, due to my sources, in 1968, cancer.

Norman Scott and Alice Gaare/Scott got probably 5 children, 4 daughers and 1 son. I have only one name, Brian Scott. Some of them, the daughters, became teachers, one a civil servant and one a librarian, all living in Canada, due to my sources. One source says they family moved to Alberta, Barhead.

Their grandmother, Emma Gaare, late in her life, in 1962 married Olaf Carlson of Surrey, British Colombia. In 1972 she suffered a severe stroke and died in 1974.

It is important to me to stress that numbers and information above is not 100% confirmed, but should be read as a first introduction to my searching relatives in Canada. But I think name and strutuce in general is correct.

Does anybody have information about:

1. Bernard Christin Gaare or his wife Emma Pedersen/Gaare/Carlson?

2. Alice Gaare/Scott and Norman Scott, daughter and son in law?

3. Any information about children to Alice Gaare/Scott and Norman Scott?

4. Olaf Carlson of Surrey, British Colombia, and one wife to his youngest son with the given name Alma. Surname not known.

Please email me at nico1008@hotmail.com , and I am very pleased having any information about this family or information connected to this family.

Sincerely
Henning Nicolai Gaare

Hi Jamie!

Thanks a lot for information about Gaare persons in Canada. I am pleased if you could help me with some questions about these informations because I am norwegian citizen and don't have exact information about Canada.

1. Does Vancouver is a place in British Colombia, and if, what kind of boards do you recommend me to use asking about John Gaare?

2. Where does Similikameen Indian Reserve is? And which boards is proper to use?

3. Same questions about Princeton, your name number 2.

4. Same questions about Hedley, your name number 3 and 4.

5. Same questions about Burnaby, your name number 5.

6. Same questions about "...Halifax, Novia Scotia...."

7. Your last person, GAARE, Anna P. Seaview Gibsons, Highway #101 Southwestern BCGS-C-06, where is this place in Canada? And do you think this person is the same as your number 7, Anna Pernela Gaare?

I am very pleased for any messages about these questions or subjects connected to the main subject.

Sincerely
Henning Nicolai

Vancouver is the biggest city in BC, I would google "Vancouver Genweb"

Similkameen is in the Okanagon, I believe the reserve is between Osoyoos and Penticton/Kelowna. Again checking their genweb would be good. I know that area has transcribed tombstones etc.

Hedley and Princton are within half hour drive of this Similkameen Reserve. (or so)

Burnaby is a suburb of Vancouver.

Halifax is the other side of Canada

Gibsons is North of Vancouver, it is part of the Sunshine Coast.

So it is really 3 areas of Canada, Nova Scotia, Vancouver area and the Okanagan area.

As I say, contact the local genweb's they have a wealth of information for you.
