I found a few things that might help. In the 1900 U.S. Census, she reports being born in Germany in June 1877 (p. 26., Bucyrus Ward 2).
In her listing on Find-a-grave, she is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Bucyrus with her husband Elisha Benfield. Also buried in that cemetery is Frances (Franziska) Gaa Baehr (1860-1945). In that 1900 U.S. census, Frances is shown living with her husband John Baehr and three sons in Bucyrus on p. 23 of that Bucyrus Ward 2 census set, not far away from Elizabeth and Elisha Benfield. Frances also reports being born in Germany. While Elizabeth doesn't report an immigration year, Frances says she immigrated in 1881. Might Frances and Elizabeth be related? She apparently did not immigrate with Frances, as she is not on the same passenger list (Rotterdam, May 1881). Eva Gaa, 58, is the only other Gaa on that passenger list.
Also buried in Oakwood Cemetery are Audrey L. Gaa (1902-1976), Carrie Elizabeth Gaa Breisinger (1881-1969), Christian P. Gaa (1880-1953), Donald C. Gaa (1903-1988), and Rene Verina Fine Gaa (1907-1944), who was the wife of Charles Gaa.

Thanks, Gary. Christian P. Gaa is the key to it. I suspected she was his sister, Philipp and Barbara's daughter, but couldn't document it. Just found Christian's obit a little while ago and it list her as Elizabeth Benefield.

Her father, Philipp, died in 1880 and her aunt, Johanna Schemel nee Gaa, died in May of 1882. Both are buried at St. Peter's in Upper.

In Nov. of 1882 her mother, Barbara nee Gieser, married Christoph Schemel, Johanna's widower.

I just put Christian's obit on my website at:

and

BTW, Johanna Schemel third entry above Eva's on the ship list is Eva's daughter.
