The dates are right for her. I found that there are two obituaries for her in the Upper Sandusky Public Library, via this record at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center: http://index.rbhayes.org/hayes/index/record_detail.asp?id=14.... They may well tell where she died and/or list any children who may have been living in Marion County, which borders Wyandot County.

Norm... You probably have seen it but in case you haven't, there is a History of St. Peter's Church in Upper Sandusky at http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=24580. Beginning on p. 39 it talks a lot about the leading role played by John Gaa (1815-1886) in the establishment and support of the church. It also includes a photo of the second home he built there for his family in 1855 (p. 49), where the church held services for a time. It was published in 1973 and said the home was still standing near the corner of 7th and Bigelow, so it may still be there. That church history also has some info about the Bastels, especially Jacob, and other related families.... Gary

Gary, Yes, in fact I have a hardback copy of the '73 history and a photocopy of the '02 history. I've transcribed six of the mini-bios from the '02 and have them on my website. The URL is:

Did a little more digging around on this. The interment record at St. Peter's doesn't have a date, but was made between 18 June and 29 October 1897. It does list the cause of death as diabetes, same as the Marion death record. I reviewed the death record and it also list her residence as Marion. I guess she must have moved there sometime after Joseph's death.

If anyone is interested I can post what info I have on her parents, grandparents and siblings to the Gaa mail list. Just let me know.
