Norm... You probably have seen it but in case you haven't, there is a History of St. Peter's Church in Upper Sandusky at
http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=24580. Beginning on p. 39 it talks a lot about the leading role played by John Gaa (1815-1886) in the establishment and support of the church. It also includes a photo of the second home he built there for his family in 1855 (p. 49), where the church held services for a time. It was published in 1973 and said the home was still standing near the corner of 7th and Bigelow, so it may still be there. That church history also has some info about the Bastels, especially Jacob, and other related families.... Gary
