Re: Does anyone know which Anna Gaa this is?
My guess is that it would be Joseph's mother, Anna Hermes Gaa. She was born in 1788, so the age is right for her. I looked for Joseph Gaa and family in the 1860 census in Upper Sandusky but didn't find them. Much of that census is very hard to read, though, and some pages are impossible.

That was my first guess, too. Then I remembered that she died in November 1843.
My next guess would be Catharine's mother. Her name was Maria Angela Wimmert nee Hartmann.
The person making the list might have misunderstood Angela as Anna and assumed Gaa for the surname. Angela would have been a widow and it would make sense for them to bring her with them.
For now I'm still guessing.

Re: Does anyone know which Anna Gaa this is?
I did some more searches and found Joseph Gaa in the 1860 census in Upper Sandusky, mis-indexed as Joseph Gar. He was living with his wife Catherine, and children Martin, Mary, Henry and Catherine. So there was no Anna or Angela living with them by then. I did several searches for Heinrich Wimmert in Ohio to no avail, including searching the index pages of all 40 pages in Upper Sandusky for anyone with a similar name. There were no Wimmerts or other Gaas in the Upper Sandusky census then. It's possible that whoever the "Anna" was who came with Joseph and Heinrich had died by then, but since I can't find Heinrich, I can't be sure. I also did a search of the Upper Sandusky cemeteries indexed at Find-A-Grave and didn't find her there, either.

Re: Does anyone know which Anna Gaa this is?
Two other places to check for Heinrich would be Bucyrus, Crawford Co., OH and Belleville, St. Clair Co., IL. Joseph's son Martin moved to Belleville as a young man and there was at least one other family of Gaa's that moved there.
Two of Markus Gaa's children settled in Bucyrus. So there may have been family already living there.
Keep in mind that all of the Hockenheim families coming to America were very interconnected in Hockenheim.
I think Bob lives in Belleville, so he might have something to add the next time he checks in.
BTW, I'm going to post some info about Joseph's brother Johann Markus to the Gaa mail list.
