I don't know if anyone even will read this but I am putting it out there. My name is Jennifer Gaa, my father is Steven GAa and my Grandfather is Gerald Gaa....that's as far back as I can go with my family tree, I do know my GG-mother on my dad's side has the last name Hanson or Hansen. We have been trying to find other Gaa's that were are actually related to, everyone my dad has found have be Filipino. Someone even called his house not too long ago looking for his wife by name, and asked if she was Filipino and when my dad said no, the person hung up. The only other Gaa's are my 2 brothers: Scott, located Germantown MD(there is a Scott Gaa in Baltimore, and is not my brother) Douglas in Mesa AZ (his family, wife Jessica and son Tyler; 2 aunts:Jerri "Michelle" in Alexandria, LA, Erin in Lancater CA; 1 sister Aspen and my stepmother Melissa in Tjeras NM (with my father); and my grandmother Janet (Ekridge or Ekeridge, from IL) also in Lancaster CA with my grandfather (both still alive). I know this is a lot of info, but if anyone can help me out it would be great!! I only have a 3 day trial for this so please email me at flutrbykisz@yahoo.com with any info, please put Gaa Family Info in subject. Thank You!

Hello Jennifer
my name is Randolph Gaa, I'm german and live near Heidelberg. As I am looking to my roots and relatives - but not beeing on faceboook...I decided to write you this mail. I saw that it is 3 years old but maybe it is still working. My search for the name "gaa" has brought some very interesting information...it all seems to beginin Scotland where there are the "gaa sands" and the people from there are calling themselves simply gaa. A Thomas Gaa is then coming within the 30 years war to France and as the war is over he settles down near our city in 1648! My relatives live here in the region of the rivers Rhein and Neckar (ca. 30people) but it seems there are relatives in bavaria as well (some kind of second "clan"). I found lots of people named gaa in Illinois/Us but even in the original area there is a Gaa construction ltd today!

I also found lists with emigrants from germany to US but still all that part is missing completely...

Maybe you can send also a mail just to say hello and maybe we could stay in contact to find out something about our roots...

Best regards, Randolph

Hallo Randolph,

Hi I'm Rex Gaa. I am a Filipino but I know the history of our family that might sound interesting to you guys. My great grand father was Rudolfo Gaa a German who became Cabeza de Barangay in Romblon Philippines during the late 1800's. Unfortunately we cannot trace his relatives in Germany anymore. We have some land holding in Romblon. After he died he divided his land to his sons and one of them is my grand father who had influence in Romblon Phil during the 1920's to 50's. I found out that the crest or symbol of the family is either a swan or a duck which I don't know the significance. Feel free to email me if you are interested on other details for I am researching for more info about the Gaa family lineage

Just happened to check the message boards and saw your response about the Gaa family. My grandmother, Maria Anna Gaa grew up in Heidleberg. She came to the US in early 1900's to marry my grandfather. If you see this message, let me know if you have any more information.
Thanks,
K

Hello Randolph and other Gaa researchers,

I have a good bit of info about the Gaa's from Hockenheim, which I think is near Heidelberg.

There appears to be close to 10 families that came to the U.S. between 1847 and 1885.

Most came to Upper Sandusky, Ohio first before moving elsewhere. Some went to St. Clair,
Illinois, others to Missouri. Even found one in Idaho.

These were the children of Johann Michael Gaa. His parents were Johannes Gaa and Rosina
Zimmermann. They were married in 1777. The marriage record states he is Catholic and she
is Calvanist, but provides little other info. Does anyone know more about Johannes and Rosina?

I'm willing to share what info I have, just email me, norman@smithorians.com

Kind regards, Norm

Randolph,

Hello. I hope that you are still active on this site and will get my reply. I am also researching the Gaa surname. My family settled in Ohio first and then moved to Illinois. I went to Hockenheim a few years ago and did some research and met a distant cousin, Hans Gaa. He also mentioned that the family originally came from Scotland. I would be very interested in hearing more about the Scottish link. My mother and I are going to Scotland in May for holiday and I would like to do a little research on the family tree while there. Can you tell me any information that you have on the Gaa family in Scotland (where in Scotland, etc?) Also, what are the Gaa sands that you referenced in your posting? My email is bkreitler@hotmail.com. Hope to hear back from you. Thanks!! Bob
