I also have a GAA from Baltimore, MD for the same time period. My GGGrandmother was Karoline GAA, from Germany, married to George SIEGLEIN, also from Germany. They had several children, in Baltimore, between 1890 - 1900.

I know nothing about her parents. Do you have any additional info that might indicate a connection?

Thanks!

Stacy, My husbands Grandmother was Gaa, Barbara born in Baden, Germany. I did find in the 1910 Miracode Index a Carrie but it says born in Ohio. When I get a chance, I will do a search in Balto. of GAA and SIEGLEIN for about that time. I do know Barbara GAA come to the port of Balto. as I have her documents. You can contact me again later if I forget to get back to you as one never knows. contact me at joan_epp@yahoo.com

Joan,
I have more info that leads me to believe that your Barbara Gaa and my Caroline Gaa may have been sisters. I have two documents (death certificate and church marriage record) that list Caroline's parents as Charles/Carl Gaa and Afra/Affel Gaa. Does this correspond to what you have for Barbara? I think there was also a brother named Jacob, but I've not confirmed that yet. You mentioned you had Barbara's immigration papers - would you be willing to send me a copy of them? I'd love to see what they contain. Thanks!

I have found a Jacob Gaa (spelled Jackob) on the 1880 Chagrin Falls, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio Census married to Emma Gillett. Jackob is listed as 29 years old, born in Ohio; both parents born Germany

Gayle, I think that your message to me should have gone to Stacey Bland. The message just above mine. But thanks anyway. Joan

My grandfather's brother is John Edward Lurz who married Barbara Gaa. She was born 1889 in Germany and died 29 June 1925. They are buried in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Baltimore, Section KK, lot 309. I do not have her death certificate yet so I don't know her parent's names. They had 2 children: Hermes I. Lurz and Cornelius Wilmer Lurz.

Jean, I think we have the same name but different people. My Barbara Gaa was born in 1867 and died 1931 and was married to Charles(Karl)J. Ihle from Horrenberg, Baden. She was born in Remshart,Bavaria. They are both buried from 14 Holy Martyrs on Mount St in Balto. The burial place is New Cathedral Cem. off Monastery Ave. in lot KK. If this is the same as yours we can talk more. Joan
