I am researching my maternal grandmother's family, the Fykes. I haven't responded to messages before, because they seemed to be removed from my line. However, when you mention Tennessee and Marion County, Illinois, I believe there may be a tie. Maybe we can get together here and make some connections.

I am a Fyke, related to the Centralia Fykes. My Brother is very deeply into our geneology and I tag along with his research. I suppose you may have run into his tree on the web here. We are related through the Granville Fykes and have hit a stump on Singleterry or Terry Fyke, who we think is the one who first arrived in NC (Granvville County, I think) in the 1700-1800s.

I am a Texas Fyke, descended from the TN and NC Fykes. I have family research that goes back into the 1700's with the Fykes from TN and NC. Was just curious how far back you have been able to go with your research on the Fykes. Mine goes back to Elisha Fike, Malachi Fike, and John (?) Fike, and everything indicates they came from Germany, originally.

I currently live at an old Fykes house on Burge Road in Centralia and wondering if there is a connection. I am currently trying to track down information and pictures of the house. Let me know if you can assist me.

Thanks

John;

That most likely is part of my family. My parents (both dec) often talked of the Heber Burge "place" and they definitely lived there or nearby. I am not really up to date on our family history even though I went down there from Chillicothe, Il with my oldest brother Jim and his wife Karen,of Eureka. Jim, who passed away in November 2013, was the family genealogist, and quite thorough with it. He was a walking Ancestry .com for our family. In 2010-2012, we three went down and hunted all over the area, including Burge Road and Kell and other sites. We went to the Fyke Family Cemetery and took photos of the stones. I would have to check with Karen to see what pictures Jim took, as he did do a lot to support his genealogy. Are you the resident in the big colonial house with the pillars, a short distance from the cemetery? Jim and Karen pointed it out to me and I think they said they had talked with the owner prior to that. I'm sorry I haven't been as deeply into the family history as Jim was.
