J.P., My gr. gr. grandparents Thomas Fyans and Ann Christian came from Dublin, Ireland to Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1860. I would like to know if you have them listed in your Fyans group? Their daughter, Mary (my gr. grandmother) came with them to the U.S. she was 14 yrs. old at the time. She died March 10, 1937, Butler, N.J. Her married name was Gleason (varient spelling Gleeson). I have not done any research abroad before and I'm not sure how to get info on Thomas and Ann. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sandy

Database not on Web--prefer to send by post if you give me your address. Meanwhile, what are your own roots. can you tell me father, grandfather, g gfather, etc? related to Captain Foster Fyans, famous war veteran convict settlement governor of early 19th C? Julian Foynes (name spelt Fyans before about 1870. My postal address 237 King St, London W6 9LR, England.

many thanks for message-sorry for late reply (have been away and not read e-mails). No, I did not have your Thomas Fyans but have now added him to my database. Fyans, Fyan, Fynes, Fines and my own Foynes often variants of same name and many emigrated from Ireland to USA or Britain in 19th c. Their origins were generally either County Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Laois, Offaly, Galway, Longford, and (with Fines/Fynes) Antrim. Do you have any other info about anyone named Fyans--Christian names, adtes of birth, geographical origins, religion, etc? Anything welcome--all goes onto my dataabse so I can make links.

Dear Julian, I'm sorry that I don't have more Fyans, I just have my gr. gr. grandparents and their daughter. They were all devout catholics, if that information helps you out. I have sent for some from the archives, hopefully they will give me a lead. If so, I'll let you know. Thanks for trying! Sandy

Hi there, my grandad is called Albert Fyans and he lives in Perth Scotland with my granny.No-one else in perth is a Fyans apart from his family. His brothers and sisters all were born in Dundee and theres about 10 or 11 of them. We want to find out if we have any more relations any-where else in the world, and where the Fyans name comes from cos it's just us who live in Perth and Dundee. Thanks Gillian

Dear Gillian, My Fyan's family came from Dublin, Ireland to the United States in the 1800's. I am researching my family and they were my gr. gr. grandparents on my mother's side of the family. They lived in Brooklyn, New York when they first reached America, after my gr. grandmother married and moved to New Jersey, where my gr. grandmother stayed until her death. She was a devout catholic and went to church everyday. Good luck hunting! Sandy

Re: Fyans related surnames
Ray, I live in Western Australia and am a descendant of Honora FYANS who married my ggrandfather Peter MILLANE in the Victorian goldfields 1866. I have quite a bit of information on the FYANS family from Athenry. Please get in touch and we can compare notes. Marie Sampson Western Australia
