Hi, Julian
I've noticed your posts over the last decade or more - my ggmother was a Fyans born in Athenry Co galway. Her father was a butcher. I'll be in London and in Athenry in June and am keen to get any info on Fyans historical involvement there prior to 1855. Not much of a footprint from whay appears to be a pretty big family who emigrated to Australia in about 1852. If you're interested, I can dig out the specifics of what we know about the Fyans family who settled here in Castlemaine. (Three of them married two Millane brothers - no bigamy involved, I hasten to add!)
Cheers

Brian

For some reason your post about coming to London has only just been notifed.
I suspect, but can't 100% prove, that you and I are distantly related because ny ggrandfather Tim Foynes was born in County Galway in 1837, his surname was often spely Fyans (or Fynes) in Galway in the 19C, and most West-of-Ireland then lived near Athenry.
I have discovered quite a lot since my last post.
How about contacting me via my work-email (so we're secure), which is jpf@latymer-upper.org.uk ?

Hi, Julian

As you suggested, I did reply via jpf@latymer-upper.org.uk but the message bounced back. (I have checked the address - I did copy/paste it but it didn't work.)

Perhaps you'd like to try via my email: millane@iinet.net.au

I'm keen to establish contact.

Best Regards

Hi Julian,

I am trying to find out as much about Talbot Fyans (variously Talbort/Fyan) who lived in Dublin 1761-1851. He was a grocer/vintner working out of Poolbeg Street, Dublin. His wife's name was Mary/Maria 1767 -1846.
This is for a book I am writing. I am particularly interested if he was related to any other notable Fyan who was hanged or involved in 1798?
Kind Regards,
Declan

Hi Declan

I doubt if Talbot Fyans and the baker Thomas Fyans hanged at Rathcoole in 1798 were closely related. but I do have quite a lot of information on both families. I'm ínterested to hear more from your end.
I'm also contactable on e-mail jpfoynes@aol.com
