I have only found one marriage for a Joseph pre 1837, don't know if you have this...not the gardener though unfortunately but thought it may help someone

The first baptisms I can see are from 1824 for Joseph and Sarah at Whitwick

They are in Whitwick 1841 with children whose baptisms are listed where his occupation is listed as framework knitter, labourer in later census returns
