There never was an Anderson in the family. The older sons took the name Friberg in Sweden. Their father was Nils Fridolf Jonsson from Kalmar. My mother was Gustav's daughter, Betty and I know that she remembered Athur and Myrna. I have done lots of work on the family and met the family in Sweden if you would like to contact me by email.

Interesting. I'm trying to put my family’s tree together.
My mother in-law is the younger daughter of Arthur and Myrna Friberg, she really can't remember many of the names anymore,
appreciate any help.
She thinks her grandfather, changed the name from Anderson
to Friberg at some point. Do you know anything about that?
I read your and the other posts about this with great interest. My great grandfather also took the name when he was apprenticed to become a blacksmith. Someone posted that their Friberg ancestor was referred to as "the Frenchman" or "fransosen". The Walloons came to Sweden in the 1600's to assisting with the refining of iron ore which spawned generations of smiths in the country. I am wondering if this early Friberg was somehow related to these Belgian immigrants?

Hilma Larsson Friberg was my grandmother. They never lived in Washington. They came from Gottburg, Sweden thru Ellis Island, NY and settled in Irvington on the Hudson, NY. Her husband's name was August. My mother was the youngest of their children. There was 8 children all together, but the 2 oldest died very very young from a famine in Gottsburg. August came ahead first then my grandma and 5 kids came here by ship. August died when my mom was 17 or 18. My mom was born in 1926 and died in 1985.....

Hilma and august were my grandparents. My mother, Gladys, was the youngest of 8 children. My mother was the only one of their children born in the United States. She was born in 1926 and died in 1985. Hilma was my Nanny for years, from the time I was 4 or 5 til I was 15 I think. Hilma died in 1971 or 72. August died when my mom was about 17 or 18. The Fribergs moved from Sweden to Irvington on the Hudson, NY, before my mom was born. August came here first and Nanny and my aunts and uncles came later by ship.
Dear Soren and Arvid;
Andreas Svensson Friberg was the father of Johan Fredrick, who was your great great grandfather. Johan, or John as he was called, was my father's uncle. I have traced this line in Sweden back to 1795 and have primary sources to document the information. If you would like a copy of the tree I have put together over the past twenty years or more I would love to exchange information with you. In addition, Gerry Achtem, who has posted on this board is a great grand daughter of Samuel Friberg who was your ancestor's eldest brother. My grandfather, Andres Wilhelm, was also your Johan's brother but we are one generation removed. Samuel was born in 1857 and Johan was born in 1873 in Goteryd, Sweden. I have much more information to share and would love to hear from both of you.

August Henry Friberg

Searching for the ancestry of August Henry Friberg, b. 2/13/1869 Sweden, d. 10/26/1935, Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Naturalized 1903 Washington State, family lore indicates immigrated to US in 1883. 1900 census was in Whatcom County, Washington and indicates married, but no family listed as he was a boarder in a hotel. Between 1900-1906 migrated to Meridian, Mississippi and married Florence Wolfe. 1907 son August Russell Friberg was born. 1908 married again to Florence Wolfe’s half sister Lillie Wolfe. August’s Bible indicates his father’s name as John Friberg, b. 1832 in Sweden, however, August’s death certificate indicates father’s name as Henry Friberg born in Sweden, no mother’s name shown. Family lore indicates that August was born in Malmo, Sweden and was the oldest of seven children, which included only one girl named Anna (who eventually married some gentleman from Denmark). The only other name of the siblings ever discussed with a brother who changed his name to G. F. Borglund. August’s father reportedly migrated to the US at some point and ended up in Massachusetts. He was reported to work in a shoe factory when he died. August’s father (John or Henry) supposedly remarried after August’s mother died and had 2-3 other Friberg children. The older set of children and the younger set did not get along and the family separated. August’s father also reportedly served in the Swedish Army at some point, charged with guarding prisoners.

Might this story ring familiar with any Friberg researchers? I just can’t seem to fit any pre-1900 data into the family lore or facts that are known.

Thanks so much.
Hi Arvid. I think we're third cousins. I'm David Larson's middle son Soren. Your father Arvid was my father's cousin, I beleive. I have a quite a bit of information on my, and your, great grandparents John Friberg and Anne Matilda Friberg. I have death certificates and more, and I think it lists a lot of info, including where they were born and thier parents. I can say John worked at Hecla Iron Works in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and lived first in Greenpoint, then sometime he and 'Matilda' moved to Elmhust. My grandmother, whose maiden name was Eleonora Friberg, I'm pretty sure was the sister of your grandfather Arvid senior.
This is the first I've heard about the 'Curb' market, would love to know more.
All the information I have is at home, so I'll put up an updated posting in a few days. I also have tons of photos, so if you're interested drop me an email at slarson@nyc.rr.com. I'll also see if there is any mention in any of the documents about a 'Andreas Svensson Friberg'.
Cheers, Soren

Dear John,
My husband and I visited a church in Wichita Falls December 2006 that had a Friberg Family genelogy book in one of their rooms. It had pictures of John and Mary Friberg, thier son and his wife George Edward Friberg and Annie Bard, and a page given by Janet Karrenbrock Richter, Barbara Simmons Summers, and Thelma Simmons Hawthorne Arthur. Thelma and her sister are the daugthers of Altha Friberg and her husband JH Simmons.
We met Thelma Simmons and saw her photo Album also. You can get a lot more info from this church in the Friberg Family geneology book. Have you seen this book? I spent hours there. My sister is Leona Marx. My grandmother is Edna Bell Pray Friberg. My grandfather's sister was Annie Estells Friberg who married Irving W. Karrenbrock 1919. See you in 2011. Linda Huffman

I can't imagine that you'll get this now but our family tells a similar story. Before my Great-great Grandparents leave Sweden and Norway in the early 1800's apparently my Great-great Grandfather was a Ben E Johnson or Jonson or some other form of that but changed to Friberg. No one knows why.

Thanks, Robert, for responding. The spelling of my ancestors was Freiberg. My great grandfather, Frederick Freiberg, was born at Greifswald, Germandy, b. Sept. 1829, died Jan. 6, 1912. His wife, Bertha Buchert, was born at Gitcho, Germany July 5, 1831; died July 5, 1831. They had 11 children, and one of them, Marie (Mary) Sophie Freiberg, was my paternal grandmother. Her son, John Henry Spauldin, was my father. Yes, Frederick, Sr. had one son named Theodor and one named Frederick. I also have the names of the others. I am trying to get additional information regarding my grandmother. If you are related to this line, please contact me again, maybe you have additional info. Thanks again for responding. Kathy Andrews

Marie, thanks for responding to my "posting." The name Freiberg is spelled differently from yours, and my grandparents came from Germany approximately 1850. The husband was Frederick Freiberg, born at Greifswald, Germany, Sept. 23, 1829, and the mother was Bertha Buchert, born at Gitcho, Germany July 5, 1831. They had 11 children, two born in Germany. I believe they settled in the Wisconsin area. If you are related to this line, I would appreciate hearing from you. Perhaps we could share information. Thanks again.

Frederick Freiberg was born at Greifswald, Germany in 1829 and his wife, Bertha Buchert was born at Gitcho, Germany, 1831. They sailed to America from Hamburg, Germany, approximately 1850. I doubt if this is the same line you are looking for. They had 11 children, some born in Germany, others in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa.

I am the great grand-daughter of Samuel Friberg and Brita Kajsa Lavin Friberg who settled in Brooklyn, NY after immigrating from Sweden in the 1890's. Could you send me more information as to my grandfather's earlier relatives?

Hello;

I am very glad to hear from you. I have information on the Friberg family in Sweden going back to 1790. I would be very happy to share what I have with you. Also, we have another cousin, Norm Friberg who is Samuel's and Brita's great grandson. He lives in New Jersey.

In any event, if you send me your direct email address I will send you what I have. Also, I have Samuel and Brita on a passenger list coming into the U.S. Much, much information to share with you.

Regards,
Margaret Testa
