The story I have heard, was that the original spelling is actually "Fiorenza", but there was some kind of disagrement with the family, so the side that had the fit, changed there name to "Frenza". I can so see Italians arguing over something so little and deciding to change there name and walk away. Sad, but probably true.

The theory in my family is it is the result of Americanizing of the last name Fiorenza. I have relatives that had this name back in Italy, and evidence of many people with this name comming into the US. It seems, like so many names the "io" was dropped when they immigrated, to make it easier to spell and say. (my husband- Genetempo is now Gentempo) Fiorenza is the original spelling of the city of Florence (Firenze- current Italian spelling). It wasn't until the time of Dante that the Italian language was written down, and it took a while for spellings to settle in. The last name means a patriarch in my family was from Florence, since many last names were the town the person was from. This is based on my research of my family, the history of Florence, and the Italian language. This is just a theory, so take from it what you may.

Hello!

My name is Rober Louis Frenza. I'm doing genealogy research on the FRENZA family. My Great Grandfather was Leonardo Frenza. He was married to Lucia DI Orio. I believe they lived in Benevito Italy but I'm not sure of that.

I believe Leonardo Frenza was born in 1859 in Campobasso, or Avellina Italy and then lived in Benevito or Avellina, Italy... but again, I'm not sure of that. I believe Leonardo Frenza died in March of 1935 ro 1936.

I believe Lucia DI Orio was born around Campobasso, Italy and died on 25 Oct. 1932 in New York City, New York, USA.

They had four sons:

First son - Joseph Frenza Sr.
Second son - Ignatius Frenza
Third son - Anthony Frenza
Fourth son - Frank Frenza

Ignatius Frenza was my Grandfather. He was married to Nicolleta Emma Reda. They had 5 children:

First daughter - Lucille Frenza
Second daughter - Maria Frenza
Third daughter - Eleanora Frenza
Fourth son - Albert Leonard Frenza
Fifth son - Louis Frenza

Albert Leonard Frenza is my father. He married Arabula LouVerna Thomas. They had 4 children.

First daughter (adopted) - Josephine Glenda Frenza
Second son - Albert Leonard Frenza, Jr.
Third son - Robert Louis Frenza (ME)
Fourth daughter - Kathryn Louise Frenza

May I ask for your assistance in establishing my FRENZA genealogy line? All I have is a little information on Leonardo Frenza and Lucia DI Iorio.

OH yes! Your website is FABULOUS! However, the picture for Campobossa, Italy did not download.

I really look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Frenza
9610 Varallo Court
Stockton, California 95212
(209) 955 1015 h
(209) 941 7562 w
(760) 622 8531 cell

PS: I too have a website... but it's still in the working (construction process). It is located at: FRENZATREE.com

Well, well well....I have chills running down my spine. My father's name is Angelo Frenza and he too is from Ripabottini (sp?). He will get a kick outta this for sure.
I am interested to know if there is any relation.
Where are you in US? We are in Canada (Toronto).

Feel free to contact us.

I have to say that this is very coincidental - I also noticed that you posted on October 6 - that is my parents wedding anniversary.

Take care.

A fellow Frenza,
Patricia
(AbsolutP@rogers.com) NO JUNK MAIL PLEASE

I am looking for any information about the Frenza family, specifically Rosa, daughter of Angelo Michele Frenza and Angela Libra. Rosa married Ludovico DiSanto in Clyde NY in 1908. Angelo MAY have been born in Bari Italy, though this is not yet confirmed. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me at whereslibby@yahoo.com. Thank you

I have learned since posting that first message that Rosa was born in Ripabottoni, not Bari. (Thank goodness! Ripabottoni is much smaller than Bari so its records are easier to search.)There are many Frenzas in Ripabottoni and many of their descendants immigrated to the US and Canada. If this information rings any bells for anyone, I'd love to hear from you at whereslibby@yahoo.com
