Carline Shank or Caroline Shenk?
In the 1900 census for Fremont Twp., Fremont Town, Steuben Co, Indiana; Heritage Quest has Carline Shank (head of house) and daughter Ada Viola Reppert; whereas Ancestry and FamilySearch has Caroline Shank and daughter Ada Viola Reppert. My eyes agree with Shank and Ada, not sure about Car (o)line but probably Carline. {for context, the granddaughter Lola French in that same house was my grandmother, her mother Sarah Shanks had died by then and her father, Joel Addison French, had remarried and moved to Iowa by 1885. Shortly after 1900 my grandfather had met and married my grandfather in Steuben County but in my discussions with my grandmother she never discussed life before grandfather.} Chasing Ada’s husband Samuel Reppert from that census to his marriage (Michigan Marriages 1868-1925 and Michigan Marriages 1822-1995) one has him marrying Ida (not Ada) Viola Shenk with bride father J. Shenk and mother Caroline Fresler, with ages, year of marriage, etc. otherwise agreeing with the census. In the 1880 census, Indiana, there is a Carline Shank married to a Noah Shank but no ages and no children matching correctly. I haven’t found any other Car(o)line Shank references yet.
So, does anyone know about a J. Shenk married to a Caroline, living during the 1800’s, with children Sarah and Ada/Ida and maybe others, in the PA, OH, MI, and/or IN states? Or other ideas?
