Fraas info

While living abroad I asked a German about the origins of the name Fraas and was informed that it is actually of old Dutch origins, with a meaning similar to 'sheperd' or 'farmer'.
I was also wanting to provide more detailed info concerning the Kansas City, MO. Fraases and was wondering about a more detailed source of information concerning the family and a more complete family tree.
Let me know.

Hi Chris! I just stumbled on to this site and your message. On meaning: Germans consider the name to derive from "fressen" or "frasse," I probably have my endings wrong, but the import is overeating, or gluttony. Our name was originally Fraass. The double S at the end is the German letter that looks like a Greek beta. the original family tombstones in Louisville are spelled that way. Judy and I found some family graves in Buhl, Germany, a couple of years ago, also spelled that way. Now that I know about this site, I will try to add some info. Hope all is well with you. Let us know how you are doing. Charlie

Thanks so much for the info. I like your definition of the last name a whole lot more than mine -- or the one I heard!
Again, thanks for the info.

I am related to Fraas' in the Kansas City area. Agnita Fraas recently celebrated her 105th birthday. Can you let me know what names you have so we can see if we're related and I can provide you some info? You can email me at rmbishop@attbi.com. Thanks.

This is the same explanation I was given. I'm looking for information about Fraas family members. My relatives are mostly in KC, Missouri now; is there a possibility we share some family members? Agnita Fraas recently celebrated her 105th birthday, does that sound familiar to you?

Rebecca: Nice to hear from you. Agnita is my only surviving aunt. Judy and I saw her last Friday in Kansas City. For 105 she is in incredibly good shape. Told us that she cooked a roast a week ago and had my cousin Jean Mitchell for dinner. How's that for 105? About the meaning of the name, it clearly refers to "gluttony" in German. Now, how are you related? I have most of the family information and would be pleased to give you whatever information you wish. You can reach me here or directly at fraasc@aol.com. Best wishes, Charlie Fraas.

Chris, I read a post of yours that your great aunt was Sophia Shoner married to August Fraas. My father was Martin Luther Fraas, his father grandfather was August Fraas. I am trying to trace this side of my family and I do not have many connections. I hope you can help.
